To many, that depends entirely on whether the president has a D or an R by his name, hence the premise of the thread (at least before the usual trolls went for their usual derail).

As far as a President playing golf, that is just partisan BS because all of the presidents need down time.

Pot, meet kettle.

Pot meet kettle indeed

The joke is on you because if you understood the premise of the thread you wouldnt have posted that, as "pot meet kettle" is the entire premise of the thread...

No, sane one, pot met kettle because if the exact same mistake had happened 4 years ago, you would have been defending the CinC.
EVERYTHING in your world depends on whether someone has a D or R after their name. Added to that, it can't be just any R. It has to be a weal and twue R. Call it strawmanning till you're blue in the face but it is what it is.

Can I be the first to offer condolences to the families of those troops casually slaughtered by what were supposed peacekeepers.

We now return you to your regular program...

"Afghans Say Pakistan Fired First in NATO Attack"

As Pakistan's top leaders gathered Sunday to bury 24 Pakistani soldiers killed by NATO airstrike, Afghan officials said Pakistani forces fired first and challenged the Pakistani claim that the helicopter attack was unprovoked.

As U.S. military, Pakistani forces and Afghan officials sought to piece together the deadly and destabilizing incident, three Afghan officials said the attack took place in response to fire from the remote Pakistani base.

Two Afghan officials working in the border area where the attack took place said Sunday that the joint force was targeting Taliban forces in the area when it received fire from the Pakistan military outpost.

That prompted the coalition force to call on its military helicopters to fire on the Pakistan base, said a Border Police official in the area. Pakistani officials in the area had been informed of the operation before it took place, he said

NATO is just a codename to USA in these matters. It should be clear to everybody.

Yes. And Obama tried to hide behind NATO's skirts on Libya until he was sure it was a "success", redefining what the mission was. Then all of a sudden it was a success of his administration, but Im sure we wont hear him take "credit" for this debacle.

PAKISTAN CUTS US SUPPLY LINES

This kind of thing pisses me off a bit, what you do here.

See, we've got troops down there, too, putting their lives on the line alongside yours.

And ours are going to be taking a hit to their safety and efficacy as a direct result of something they demonstrably did not do, in an effective theatre of war where they are present solely because of a commitment to the mutuality clauses of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, with those clauses only being relevant because yours got themselves into a place we (like many others) told them it would be a bad idea to go in the first place.

So you got a heads up on what was known to be the outcome, said fuck y'all anyway, still got your backs covered by the people who know what loyalty is, fucked things up again, got everyone even deeper into the shit you landed everyone in, and then it's suddenly time to whine about how you are cut off as a result, when indeed everyone is cut off by this?

Turning it into a USA-navel-of-the-world political pity party... that's just disgusting at this point.

Most likely, it's an accident, and either way will be looked into.

Health,
al-Aswad.

QFT

That is what the situation looks like from Norway. It looks precisely the same from here in Australia too.

This is a stupid unwinnable war and the sooner the West gets out, the better off everyone will be

The sick thing is, as stupid as going in was, it's worse to pull out now that we're knee deep in it.

We pull out, they clean house, fight a brief civil war (it'll not be brief for the civilians, but it'll be brief as far as power is concerned), and then they will be stronger than ever. And we won't have a living soul there that doesn't know we're both cowards, unreliable, warmongers, and a host of other things besides. These past few years of building a relationship with the people, getting a manageable government into place, providing the enemy with someone else to shoot at... it will all be wiped clean off the board. And they'll have justifiable cause to retaliate. And eventually, we'll have to go back in. And then we'll be on our own. Bogged down for decades in a war of attirition with an enemy that has nothing to lose, if we're lucky. Talk about foreign debt...

The alternative is to kill everyone there, down to the last child in the most remote village.

Leaving aside the moral issues of perpetrating genocide on that scale (outdoing the Holocaust) and the division it will be creating in the West, it would be impossible to do it without taking out the entire Arab world- the very cradle of life so to speak- erasing all ties to a significant part of our history and evolution. Doing so would require Russian weaponry, as the US army does not have the means to sterilize a subcontinent without permanently destroying the biosphere and ending all human life as we know it. The Russians do possess such weapons, though it is unclear whether they have adequate means of delivering them on such a scale.

Wouldn't that be ironic, given that the whole mess started with the US wanting a dam against the USSR?

Deleting about a century of western history and several millenia of human history for the idiocy of one man, the greed of a few and the emotional spasms of a herd that put them in the position for this to happen. That would be one hell of a testament to leave to our descendants. Perhaps the best argument against having any at the moment. It takes American ambition and egoism to exceed the Jewish Holocaust,  the Armenian Holocaust and the Nanking massacre, I guess. Perhaps it'll spark a bit of that old civil war spirit, narrow their gene pool down to humans only.

Ok, that was a bit harsher than is justified. Shit does happen, after all.

But some choose to act responsibly when it's their shit.

Health,
al-Aswad.

P.S.: While we sort out our shit, there's about 4 billion people taking our place at the top of the pyramid, and I doubt they will do much better, at least by the standards of the values we've been touting lately (course, we're eradicating them quite well on our own, so it might not make a difference in anything but living standards).

NATO membership, is there an exit clause ? I tell you what, it may become a liability. It may already be actually.

It definitely is for Obama. He will spend the next year floundering around trying to figure out how to deal with Pakistan.
