SAMHAIN09 -> I need some help with looking for some books (11/26/2011 10:29:56 PM)

Okay I've been looking for a book to buy online to help me with starting out in the BDSM lifestyle but I can't find any on the usual store websites like wall mart, and k mart does anyone have any suggestions? I mean does anyone know of some books I can purchase on an online store?

Sm 101: A Realistic Introduction by Jay Wiseman
The Loving Dominant by Johnny Warren
The New Bottoming Book by Dossie Easton
The New Topping Book by Dossie Easton
Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns: The Romance and Sexual Sorcery of Sadomasochism by Philip Miller and Molly Devon

Take your pick. Lots of books out there.

This is probably the most comprehensive list Ive ever seen compiled by our own Resident Sadist and friends.

I have all of these but the first one, which I have heard many good things about.

I'll take the liberty of recommending one for you: The New Topping Book

Ishmael Skye's "Free Wealin', A Hitch Hiker's Guide To Kinky Sex" is little short of magnificent. It covers the basics and (unusually for a bdsm how to guide) is written with a sense of humour rather than the insufferable pomposity and a conviction that the author is one of the elect and so innately superior to the vanilla scum who make up the rest of the human race. Funny, helpful and constructive.
It's also very (Northern) English, and might be hard to find in the 'States, sadly.

Walmart and Kmart aren't book stores, so the selection they'll offer is limited and I doubt you'll find any BDSM oriented books on their sites. Get an account with Amazon.com. They have everything!

I'd missed the K Mart thing in the OP, but fucking hell, yes. Plus as many ones as can be mustered. This is a store that won't carry Dan Brown in case they offend the Pope and somebody's expecting to find kinky lifestyle guides there? Ain't gonna happen.

(I'd also suggest abebooks if Samhain is going to look into buying books online. A lot of the stock is overpriced, but if something has ever been published, there will be a copy on there, even if you need to sell a kidney to afford it...)

Try Barnes and Noble... in their new "Sexuality" section...or in their "Self Improvement" section. (FOR REAL!!)

They also have some beautiful books in their Sexuality section about different kinds of sex (oral, Tantric, Kama Sutra, etc.), sensual massage, etc.
Enjoy!!

Walmart will not carry them because they are a "Christian based" store.  I am just lucky that they carry paranormal romance books.

Check out Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Ebay and Alibris.  The last one is where I get my Gor books if Ebay sellers are charging too damn much for them. Barnes and Noble even have an account on Ebay (that is where I got my Lovecraft book).

Which Lovecraft book is that? There's an awful lot of those...

ShaharThorne -> RE: I need some help with looking for some books (11/28/2011 7:02:57 AM)

This is the complete works of Lovecraft for $21.99 American.  They even paid for the shipping in the US.  The book is kinda heavy but I keep it next to me, along with Auel's The Land of the Painted Caves and Jamal's Shamanic Women in Contemporary Society.  I have a very eclectic taste in reading materials.

Right. That's the huge hardback with the embossed cover, then. Very nice edition if it's anything like the UK version, but some of the text is very badly proof edited.
