Reports of Newt's death have been greatly exaggerated

Beware the Trojan Horse. The liberal establishment and liberal media are doing everything they can to try and steer the nomination away from Romney.

While I am not hearing the call to abandon ship. I would tend to agree with you. I really think that when his own religious right starts cracking open the book of Mormon for a look-see in an effort to make him renounce, the public will fucking freak and run from him big time.
Newt is MUCH more marketable in the long run. And people feel they KNOW him. For better or for worse.
I think it's natural that Bill comes out and says something, cause he's been very fond of "I told ya so" past 8 - 10 years. And he and Newt DO have a history... though I hear conflicting reports about how much actual dislike there is between them.

Part of the reason Newt is catching on fire is his wit

Newt To Obama: Let's Debate, You Can Use A Teleprompter...

And to those who say character matters, two words. Can you guess what they are?

smart move by a smart politician.

this has nothing to do with getting obama reelected, of course. the gop literally does not have a single electable candidate. romney cannot magically de-mormonify himself and cain and perry are both, astonishingly enough, both too stupid to be elected even in 21st century america.

still, after obama has spent the past term casually heaping contempt upon the left, the only way to jack up contributions to the democratic party from some of the liberals who got snookered into banking obama last time around is to conjure up the image of the biggest, scariest monster imaginable. gingrich works as a big scary monster and invoking his name may just be enough to keep the party's coffers ringing with coins despite obama's tried and true record as every ounce the corporate shill clinton and bush were.

money is the only concern of either political party. money greases the wheels for party functionaries. money buys the access that gets loyal team players and their sons and daughters jobs in the banks and in the media. money makes both wings of the american property party go around.

the dems in particular happen to be in trouble right now. by their own accounting, donations for the congressional campaigns are down 20% and many big donors aren't getting out their checkbooks this time around.

Thats the Democrats' problem, Obama is a known now and so the thrill is gone. They have no one to vote for this time around. and so the only hope is that the hated and despised (barely human) Republicans nominate someone they can demonize enough to encourage the party faithful to vote against.

And deep down inside the smart ones know that it wont be nearly enough

Fat lot of good that did...

Do you think Obama is making friends on Wall Street, or alienating them.

He is alienating everybody, your own posts reveal a certain contempt for the man.

this is going to be my last reply in the thread, i suspect, since i have no horse in the race. there are literally no circumstances under which i would vote for (or more to the point give money to) either obama or his republican challenger. the gop could run david duke and zombie strom thurmond and i would still have nothing to do with obama (i neither donated nor voted for him the last time around either).

i just want to reiterate that this is smart politics on clinton's part because all the dems are worried about at this point is raising money, and the only way to raise money is to terrify the base with monsters like gingrich. as far as the next election cycle goes, the dems will lose even more ground in the house and senate, but they'll retain the white house. there is no point in having an internet fight about it, and if you want to think the gop is going to win next time around i'm cool with that. my only comment is that i have offered several republicans i am friends with a straight-up thousand dollar bet--obama wins and i collect, any republican is in the white house and they win. nobody has taken me up on it.

the bankers will continue to bankroll both major parties, as they always have. the bankers will continue to get everything they want and complain loudly about it anyway, as they always have.

obama cannot possibly alienate me. i regarded him as a loathsome, soulless machine from the start and my opinion of him cannot sink any lower. i am surprised by how open he was about continuing and extending some of the worst bush era policies on civil rights and military operations on foreign soil, but i am not in the least surprised that he has continued these policies. there was never any reason to view obama as anything other than a vicious, heartless opportunist.

i DO find a sort of black amusement in watching how loath self-proclaimed "liberals" are to call obama out on the same policies for which they were eager to chastise bush.
