Right handed can openers, ungh! I always feel like i'm doing it upside down when using them. Made me switch to electric at first opportunity.

Might have to place an order there. It's amazing what we do to compensate though. I know I don't even think about it much anymore.

Thank you!! Yes it's definitely a world geared for the right handed. I'm a lefty myself and run into awkwardness, etc. in using things designed for right handed people.

The fact you can all write left-handed means you were spared the rod of an angry nun eh?

My dad wanted to change me to being right handed when I was young, but my mom told him that I was who I was, and to leave me alone...lol

very strongly left handed here, however with typing and calculators etc I have adapted. I find that I use my right hand for the heavy stuff and my left for the fine motor skills stuff...ex: armload of hay on right, left hand for opening the gate, so oddly my right arm is stronger, just not as co-ordinated.

DISCLAIMER - Please be aware that the flowing post is spectacularly bitchy rant it is more of a diatribe against the nature of humanity though it does accurately reflect my feelings on the issue.

Left handed pencils, wtf is that all about. My life is not complete as a left handed person until I own a set of left handed fish forks Oooooooo and a left handed grapefruit knife never before have I seen such a display of pointless gimmicky crap. I will alert my immediate family to the fact that if they ever see me buying a left handed lemon decorator they have my permission to take me out into a field and shoot me, for the love of Christ what have the people who sell these things been smoking. I can sort of see the point of left handed can openers for people and possibly left handed scissors for some people who have a specific difficulty when it comes to things like that though I have lived my entire life without using a pair so I will not be buying any. I wonder if Michelangelo or Leonardo da Vinci had a set of left handed pencils and paint brushes. Perhaps one of the main reasons the Mona Lisa has such a strange smile is that Leonardo special needs pencil broke so he had to use a normal one which he would have of course welded like a ham fisted cabbage because after all how else would a left handed person cope without the appropriate drawing instrument.

I am quite pissed off by sites like this personally I find things like that extremely offensive and condescending it almost makes out that being left handed is some sort of spectacular disability that needs to be pandered to. I am quite sure people have lost limbs and don’t require as many totally ludicrous pieces of equipment to cope with their daily lives. In fact I have even seen people with no arms who draw and paint in quite an accomplished fashion using their feet and a perfectly normal selection of pencils and paint brushes.

End of rant.

Scissors was always an exercise in frustration for me.

I write with my left-hand.  I throw a ball with my left hand, do most things with my left hand.

SO when I was REALLY little, and starting school .... they knew I was left-handed.  And gave me left-handed scissors.  Not that I knew one thing or another about it, really.  But I use scissors with my right hand.  Can't tell you the problems I had trying to express myself in a five-year-old way to people who were convinced that whatever hand I was using was somehow wrong!
