they play a role for me. i can be attracted to someone who holds divergent views from my own, but there are lines i will not cross. on another site, i was exchanging messages with a fairly gorgeous and intelligent woman and we were getting along quite well until i noticed that her profile had a line saying she was not interested in being contacted by persons of color under any circumstances. i promptly told her to go to hell. what is your breaking point when it comes to political and social differences with a prospective?

If our views are not at least somewhat similar, if they're polar opposites then that plays into morals and values which means we won't be compatible and I would not even get past the first few initial emails. It's usually quite apparent pretty quickly ime.

It isn't so much the political or social differences that would lead me to breaking ties with someone. It's only if they showed an intolerance of said differences.

Anyone that feels so strongly about something that wishes to talk about it all the time or argue with me if I disagree or wants to make everything more serious than it is, adding to the story with racism or political conspiracy... I don't bother doming their ass... my ass is running. Yes, there are some things I am afraid of.

I also agree with poise, and I'll add that the relationship itself can dictate the importance of these issues. In a casual play situation, would it matter as much as in a committed long term relationship that your politics sync up? Way back when I had them, I had a lady friend that had the complete opposite politics and social views as me. If we weren't careful, we could spin off into debates at the drop of a hat. In fact the last time we met up, I mentioned to her that the famous Matthew Shephard (sp?) murder in Wyoming had absolutely nothing to do with him being gay, and was in fact a drug deal gone bad. Now she's head of the local LGBT committee/support group/whatever back home, and she refused to believe me, and got quite angry, and hasn't spoken to me since.

I also agree with poise. Aaand to an extent, the degree of preoccupation matters, too. If a day can't pass without arguing about something... probably won't work.

If she has a political view in her Likes, Loves, or Lives For, and the opposing view in her Hard Limits or Hates, I move on. It's not so much that she holds that view, but that it's a life-or-death thing for her.

[:D] I would not out-of-the-blue promptly tell someone to go to hell if i found out something i didnt agree with or like about them, i would just politely take my leave... That sort of thing has happened to me, one guy i met, we went for dinner and a movie... he told me about someone he was seeing previously but their politics were opposite and so things for them didnt work out.. I found his extreme politics, take no prisoners conservatism to be a deal breaker for me also.. I think he sensed that in my reaction to some of the things he said, just my body language.. Had he wanted to pursue a relationship with me i would have told him politely no, we werent compatible enough... I dont like extreme conservatism or extreme liberalism...

One of my pals has "no Republicans" on his profile. [:)] I am not a political person. I have found that I cannot be in a relationship with a person whose views are utterly divergent from mine. Bigots, anti-Semites, far right wing folks, savagely religious people, all of that is a no.

I was with a Dom for 4 yrs who had an opinion about absofuckinglutely everything, all the time and anywhere. It got to the point where I couldn't even say anything, he'd get all up in arms about some stupid silly-ass thing. So yeah, it got tiresome, had been for awhile, and I decided enough was enough. I'd heard the same stories 50 times each, they never changed, and anything could set him off. So I finally got smart and dumped his ass. I don't care about politics one way or the other, I just don't need to hear about how someone else feels about every little thing that this politico or that has done, or this or that party has decided. To me, they all make pre-election promises, go back on them, and we're right back to where we started off with. Same party or different party elected, doesn't matter. Same with racism, bigotry, you name it. There's enough going on in my own life that I don't need someone with an ASSitude that's going to contradict everything just for the sake of it.

No extremes on either end of the spectrum. No to people who harbor hate towards a community. You can have opposing views as me. But when you show yourself as a generalizing, narrow minded, over opinionated, spitful douchebag...i want nothing to do with you. example, i got asked out via facebook by a guy who had comment on a phot of a mutal friend after me. I didnt say no because i'm in a relationship, i said no because he had written, "fucking liberals! Go occupy a job!" Permanent turn off.

What is your source for this? The Pre-Sentencing Information on the murderers, and talking to the two of them. One of them, Hudson, was in Protective Custody for quite a while after he got gang raped at the state pen. A lot of the old timers didn't take kindly to what they did.

When I was first finding out what I enjoyed and just having casual play sessions, politics talk didn't really come into it. When I decided that I wanted a ltr, I made a point of chatting to people for a while before meeting them, and most of the time their political views, morals and standards conflicted with my own too much for me to even want to meet. Even though Moon has very strong political views, we basically have the same morals and standards and are on the same political side, even if I don't know as much about politics as he does, so it all works for us. I doubt it would have if there had been a big difference, though. [:)]

What the lovely LadyHib said. I don't do casual play, I do relationships. If their views are extreme and completely assinine (aka not close to my own..[:D]) they better be prepared to have it beat out of them and be converted. However, I doubt I would like them enough, to want them near enough, to beat.
