This is for those who have been long term, conservative Republicans.

I ran across an article that stated the House has been taken over by a new group of cynics only concerned about the costs.

Before I post a link to the article, I was curious if any would like to give their impressions upon this.

My impression is that all the GOP is concerned about is making Obama a one term president.

And that is different from the DNC's concern about any given Republican president in what way??

I'm not convinced they're trying all that hard to win. My gut feeling is they want things to get a little worse and try to take over in '16.

I was waiting for that.

I found this article from the Warren one. Apparently there was a complaint that her survey was skewed. So I went hunting, and found one of the writers of the criticism.

http://www.kaiserhealthnews.org/Columns/2011/March/030711millenson.aspx

The health care community is discovering to its shock and dismay that it's not simply traditional Republican conservatives who have taken control of the House of Representatives, it's a new group of cynics.

Conservatives, like liberals, have a more-or-less coherent set of ideas. They use political power to push preferred policies, whether related to health care, housing or a hundred other possible issues. William F. Buckley Jr., one of the fathers of modern American conservatism, "had a way of … making conservatism a holistic view of life not narrowed to the playing fields of ideology alone," as one admirer put it.

Although cynics may claim conservative credentials, their view of government is really nothing more than a quarrel about its cost. It brings to mind Oscar Wilde's immortal phrase, "The cynic knows the price of everything and the value of nothing."

So I asked for opinions... not on the RNC, not on the DNC, but on the House being taken over by cynics. Hell, its not even about the Senate or any Republican on the boards.

But, if you want, I can make that my campaign.

I think your gut is failing you. A year is a long time in politics, 5 years is an eternity. Obama is extremely vulnerable right now, and the business cycle will eventually mean some (albeit temporary) improvement in the economy despite his bumbling. To forego opportunities now with '16 so uncertain would be foolhardy. When the dust settles on the GOP primaries the general election campaigning will begin in earnest and your gut will likely change. In the unlikely event that the primaries are inconclusive enought that the convention could be meaningful, there will still be a step up in campaigning against Obama, but the all out assault wont happen until summer 2012.

Just like that all out assault they made in '08?

The RNC is PISSING the country away by not stepping up with a plan.

True.

But for this man to talk about GOP staffers the way he did, and talk about the new GOP House field....

This man isnt a dummy in the health care field.

cyn·ic (snk)
n.
1. A person who believes all people are motivated by selfishness.
2. A person whose outlook is scornfully and often habitually negative.
3. Cynic A member of a sect of ancient Greek philosophers who believed virtue to be the only good and self-control to be the only means of achieving virtue.

Which of those three do you think applies to his usage?

THe author admits hismelf that the Rebulicans are planning to "repeal and Replace" Obamacare.

Which isn't selfish, negative/scornfull, nor a member of an ancient sect.

The collum is pretty much just partisan whining by a lefty, who doesn't seem to have impressive credentials to me.

per the writer himself. Always best to ask the source what he means.

Oddly enough, it was righties on these boards who quoted him to debunk another leftie.

So the author doesn't know what a cynic is, just wants to slam republicans.

And leties think he is an important person.

No surprise there.
