Rule -> (Fat?) German falls on wife and she dies (11/30/2011 4:03:28 AM)

Was he fat or was he not? She died in the hospital.

angelikaJ -> RE: (Fat?) German falls on wife and she dies (11/30/2011 4:32:50 AM)

Rule, You are making an assumption: her husband was fat.

That need not have been the case: she may have just fallen wrong and hit her head or broken her neck. The fall could have caused a heart attack or internal bleeding.

Elephants are pretty tall and most of us haven't been trained as stuntmen to fall the right way.

Rule -> RE: (Skinny?) German falls on wife and she dies (11/30/2011 5:14:51 AM)

Maybe you are right. Do you suppose that he was skinny, or that he wasn't?

searching4mysir -> RE: (Fat?) German falls on wife and she dies (11/30/2011 5:31:19 AM)

The average elephant height (at the shoulder) is 8-10 feet. Her husband's weight was irrelevant. It wasn't like she was doing a pratfall onto a mattress.

Rule -> RE: (Inconsequential weight) German falls on wife and she dies (11/30/2011 5:46:20 AM)

You are likely right. His weight then is inconsequential.

DesFIP -> RE: (Inconsequential weight) German falls on wife and she dies (11/30/2011 12:13:30 PM)

I've ridden an elephant. You're sitting ten feet up in the air and usually it isn't soft, fluffy dirt underneath, it's concrete to be easier to clean. Tell you what Rule, you fall off a ten foot height head first onto concrete and see how well you survive.

Rule -> RE: (Inconsequential weight) German falls on wife and she dies (11/30/2011 1:23:02 PM)

I am not going to sit on an elephant. I am a coward and them beasts scare me.

Besides: I already fell ten feet as a child. I limped for quite some time.

A woman died after a fall from an elephant, you find it amusing to speculate if the husband was fat or not? What do you do for fun? Go to funerals, kick kittens and babies?

He's an idiot.  What else would you expect from him?

Maybe he landed on his head during that 10 ft fall as a child?

Fat, skinny, or of inconsequential weight. It is an odd case and I would like more information.

Why? Pure morbid curiosity? You've already stated you have no interest in riding an elephant so it can't be to inform yourself on what to avoid.

Rule -> RE: (Fat?) German falls on wife and she dies (11/30/2011 2:37:56 PM)

Because the article stated that the woman died not because she fell, but because her husband fell onto her. That intrigues me. The first hypothesis was that her husband was fat. The second that he was skinny - which intrigues me even more. The third that his weight was inconsequential - but if so, then what about him was consequential; that is even more mysterious.

Velocity, impact and bad luck, most likely.

What does his weight have to do with it? She fell off an elephant, for crying out loud. AND, the article did not say it was his falling on top of her that killed her. A direct quote from the article you referenced said The elephant slipped, and the couple fell to the ground. Kretz Schmar's husband landed on top of her. She died at a Krabi hospital. All it said is that he landed on top of her, NOT that that's what killed her. You know what they say about that word ASSume.

Indeed. Thus there also is a spiritual mystery.

Would she have died if he had been weightless? If so, then weight might not have been of any consequence. The question then is: What did kill her instead?

Indeed, the article did not say so, but to my perception it implied so. An alternative is that the husband survived because the body of his wife functioned as his shock absorber; that would be interesting as well.

The fall itself might have killed her. No one said what type of surface she fell on. Whether it was grass, rock, concrete, or what. It could have been his weight. It also could have been the surface she fell on, the height from which she fell or any number of things. It does seem strange that one would automatically assume body weight had to do with it. Not everything happens because of a person's weight.

"It could have been his weight."

Yeah, if he weighed eighty pounds and she had landed on a rock, his massiveness may have stuck that rock into her back at the velocity, which by the way I think would be about 4.3 MPH. A round figure for sure, if someone wants to figure it out accuately be my guest.

If you hit a brick wall at 4MPH I bet it hurts. If you hit a person's elbow at 4MPH I bet it hurts ALOT more. Breaks things more. Worse.

Of course if a moose lands on you you are fucked.

T^T

NiceButMeanGirl -> RE: (Fat?) German falls on wife and she dies (11/30/2011 7:22:16 PM)

Termyn8or, I wasn't saying it WAS his weight that killed her, I was just saying it could have been that or any number of other things as well. That article said nothing at all about what actually killed her. She hit the ground and her husband just happened to land on top of her.
