MadameMonique -> Suggested rope lengths for beginner (5/28/2006 2:10:42 AM)

I was just wondering what the suggested lengths for a beginner at rope bondage to learn with?  I have 2x 15mtr lengths and I want to cut it down to a few more managable lengths - to avoid me being more tangled up then my victim !

Ive usually used chain as my prefered method of bondage but am looking to expand my skill base :)

I've never done this as general advice but, to me, there is no specific ruler length to satisfy your question.  But I like your question because it's important to me, too!

Now I'll admit to being somewhat of a perfectionist when it comes to bondage, even to a point of even being obsessive/compulsive about the result.  I have my own guidelines for tying the girl up and one is that I also hate messy loose ends.  So I take the time (and expect your sub to find annoyance in this... lol) to physically experiment with basic rope ties to get the exact length right to suit her physical dimensions.  It's probably most relevant for shorter ropes such as wrists and ankles etc....  For more elaborate bondage with longer ropes, it becomes easier to add an extra loop here or there to take up any excess length for appearance sake.

Be aware that your 15 metre lengths aren't really that long once you start messing with breast or chest harnesses etc.  Rope is my favourite form of bondage but it is time consuming to get everything as I like....  So once it's on her, it'll be there for awhile.... [;)]  But don't scrimp if it's important to you, too!  Shop around and consider buying it in 100 metre spools.  Once you're imagination takes over, it doesn't go as far as you initially think.

Focus.

Keep in mind, I'm far from a rope expert - I do some rope bondage but not a huge amount.  Exactly how long is going to depend on how elaborate the rope work you do, and also the size of the sub in question.  Through some trial and error, I've found:

Anything less than about 12 feet is utterly useless except for cock and ball bondage.

A 12 to 15 foot length is good for limbs - either tying together or to bedposts, etc.

If you're doing a chest/breast harness type thing, a 25 foot length works well..

If you're going to do body harness type stuff, a 50 to 75 foot length works well.

Anything over 50 foot can be a real pain in the butt to work with  LOL.

Given that there are so many colors of rope available, one thing you can do to tell what lengths of rope are is to color coordinate - for example, all your 15 foot ropes are blue, your 25's yellow, your 50's purple.  It makes it easier to sort through to find what rope you need without any guesswork.

I keep four short lengths, about 4 feet each each for quick ties to other objects, like from cuffs to four bedposts.  Two six foot lengths can be used to provide quick wraps/ties of wrists or ankles.

What Sonnet said :)

If you don't want all one color rope per size, you can just whip the ends of the rope with the same color.
