Tell you the truth Blushes,I dont think I have...as I said the genre doesnt really do it for me...I am a wuss,I dont even like scary movies.I read Twilight Eyes,The Watchers,The Husband and Whispers...off the top of my head,thats the best I can do as far as what I have read of Koontz.Yanno when I was originally stating that I liked Koontz better I was crediting,in my mind,him with a wonderful book I read years ago...The Talisman,now of course after reading your post and tryingto figure out what I have read of Koontz...I discover he didn't write the Talisman.....King did with Peter Straub....so that shows how strong the anti Red Sox thing is with me,I didnt even want to give King credit for a book I absolutely loved.....lol.

Odd Thomas isn't horror.
It's more..uhm...well...it's hard to describe, but it definitely is more mainstream. I let my 12 year old dd read it.
But I don't care for much horror either. I get halfway through it and want to quit.

The Stand is epic. And while there are some scary parts it's mostly about the fight of good and evil.

Odd Thomas was AWESOME.

slvemike4u -> RE: Help needed.Stephen King's 11/22/63 (12/2/2011 4:56:27 PM)

Well,in what is typical behavior for me,I will probably go about devouring everything he has written.In the past,when I really,really like a book....I will go to the "Also by...." page and than go about ticking off all of the authors books.
This 11/22/63 is presenting me with,what is an age old issue for me,the desire to block everything else out and just read straight thru the damm book.There are a few Grisham and Baldacci books that I devoured in less than 24 hours...now while that might satisfy the compulsive instant gratification part of my psyche....it actually makes for a less enjoyable experience....I usually have to back that up with a re-read a month or two ater.Plus it inteferes with the rest of my life,albeit for only a short period....lol.
Add to that at 900 pages I would probably be missed in P and Rfor however long it took [:D]

xxblushesxx -> RE: Help needed.Stephen King's 11/22/63 (12/2/2011 5:21:45 PM)

Have you read the rest of the series?
The first book is the best. (and the ending is...wow!)
But the rest I love just as much!

I'm right there with you. Please keep the books I mentioned in mind, because they rock.
Also the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo series of three books by Steigman (I believe) are incredible. (as are the movies...not the American version which isn't out yet, but the Dutch version...I think)

Yeah "The Girl With the Dragon Tatoo" is now on my to do list...to demonstrate what an idiot I am....I had assumed it was Chick Lit...yanno a book about chicks written by a chick with hick characters and chick veiwpoints(have I painted myself mysonginistic enough yet.....lol) anyway the recent commercials have convinced me I was in error...saw it today at the store in paperback,figued after The Drop...I can grab "The Chick with the Dragon Tatoo" book [:D]

Have you read Koontz's Odd Thomas series? It's spectacular!

King's The Stand (dated but awesome) rocks! (as a movie and as a book)

Heh, The Stand is to date the only Stephen King book I didn't like. Read them all and so far I'm loving 11/22/63

slvemike4u -> RE: Help needed.Stephen King's 11/22/63 (12/2/2011 5:51:05 PM)

Isn't it just fucking great,the premise itself(I know it is tried and true,time travel and all) has me at the edge of my seat...change that one day...and watch the cascade effect on world history.So fucking cool.
Where are you in the book(pg wise)...I so want to talk to people about it,without ruining it for anyone else....lol.

It's my favorite book ever. :)

I really love the whole idea of the effects of changing the past and how the past doesn't want to be changed.

I'm not nearly as far along as you are and didn't read most of this thread for that reason. As usual, things are plodding along and then out of the blue WOAH HOLY FUCKING CHRIST! potential spoiler alert!!!! Case you don't know Ritchie and Bev are from another of his books, hence my reaction.

Stieg Larsson and the original movie is Swedish.

slvemike4u -> RE: Help needed.Stephen King's 11/22/63 (12/2/2011 6:41:49 PM)

Fire,yes I am a bit ahead of you...and no,other than the original question posed in my OP...i would not,on pain a death(or a real good flogging) spoil anything for anyone.I would not want to be responsible for spoiling this for anyone.....why the hell does the past have to be so obdurate....I love that word,I will be working it into conversations for the next month or so...so much better than a mere "stubborn" or" obstinate"....lol.

slvemike4u -> RE: Help needed.Stephen King's 11/22/63 (12/2/2011 6:43:59 PM)

One last thing...how do you deal with ebooks,I need the actual book in my hand,to me it is the difference between reading an actual paper(which my son laughs at me about) as opposed to on line reading.
Must be a generational thing...for me I mean [:)]

Fornica -> RE: Help needed.Stephen King's 11/22/63 (12/2/2011 6:52:52 PM)

Blushes- yes, loved them all :)
Mike- I'm the same way...I love the book in hand. I've read a couple on my iPad, and it's not as bad as I thought it would be..but it just doesn't compare to the feeling of holding a book and just turning technology off for a bit, you know?

It's one of mine too, brilliant and probably his best work. Love it.
