Vince Lombardi. A man so great, we named the superbowl trophy after him.

Is Newt quitting?

Newt quit politics a day after getting reelected in 1998, when he resigned from the house in a little tantrum rather than being demoted from Speaker when his fellow Republicans freaked the fuck out after getting spanked in the midterm elections after they listened to him and actually tried to remove Clinton from office. ( Which obviously didn't work, and was according to the election returns, pretty fucking unpopular... )

That's probably his best bet, he sure is not going to be elected to anything with his record.

slvemike4u -> RE: I would like to remind Newt, "Quitters Never Win"... (12/3/2011 4:25:22 PM)

He is not running an actual campaign....he is running a book selling tour [:D]

tazzygirl -> RE: I would like to remind Newt, "Quitters Never Win"... (12/3/2011 4:28:38 PM)

Who in the running doesnt have a book out?

slvemike4u -> RE: I would like to remind Newt, "Quitters Never Win"... (12/3/2011 5:10:54 PM)

A better question would be...who is in the running to actually get nominated ?...as opposed to just selling books .
This is Romney's nomination now much like it was once Hilary's nomination,he can certainly lose it....but no one else, currently running can win it absent his self inflicted blow up.
Will the base/core of the party be tickled pink....nope,not at all,but they will bite down the impulse to choke on it and applaude like good conservatives as he accepts the nomination.
So sayeth Mike[:)]

It's not his until the primaries start.  Don't forget, before they started four years ago, Clinton and Giuliani were clear frontrunners.

I don't see Romney winning.  His own party doesn't like him.  He will get early momentum after NH but there'll be a shakeout as other candidates drop out.  The last non-Romney standing will get a huge wave of support.  I could see Gingrich filling that role (but not much - I expect anyone who truly believes in family values to dump him), Paul, maybe Santorum or Perry.  Huntsman is too alike Romney, and Bachmann is a nutcase.

I'm rooting for frothy mixture to win the Republican nomination. That would get very funny very fast.

slvemike4u -> RE: I would like to remind Newt, "Quitters Never Win"... (12/3/2011 5:58:13 PM)

But DS,we have already gone thru the trying out period. We have watched as one after another of these "anybody but Romney" candidates has had their moment at, or near, the top.
Each and every time the one constant is Romney's own support....it isn't wavering(true it isn't rising either)it is steady and it will see him thru the early primaries...it will also ensure his ability to raise cash.
Romney is the candidate the Republicans are stuck with....don"t take my word for it,listen to the professionals...chech in on any of the sunday morning talk shows,no matter who is the flavor of the month,White House operatives keep bringing the conversation back to Romney...they know who they will be running against.

He's the obvious choice.  Doesn't mean he'll win.  The scenario is that he'll win a few primaries but I think he'll get pluralities instead of majorities.  As candidates drop, the opposition to him will coalesce.

Up to now, we've just had the dress rehearsal, not the show.

slvemike4u -> RE: I would like to remind Newt, "Quitters Never Win"... (12/3/2011 6:40:15 PM)

Granted DS,but the "field" here isparticularly weak. This,in my opinion, will in the end be decided using the electabilty(in the general) criteria....and as you look to Romney's left and right at these debates you realize that there is no one else on that stage that the Republicans can possibly put forth other than Romney.
No sirre bob,Republicans will pinch their noses and nominate the former Governor of Mass....they won't be all that excited about it,but they will do it 'cause they just don't have anyone else[8|]

slvemike4u -> RE: I would like to remind Newt, "Quitters Never Win"... (12/3/2011 7:58:44 PM)

I'll split the difference with you tazzy...10 weeks, lol. The increased attention and severe examination his new standing in the polls will garner him will have an increasingly deleterious effect on him and his demeanor, meanwhile the voters will take a harder look at old uncle Newty and find him lacking in the extreme.Manwhile steady, though extremely unexciting Mitt will simply sit back and watch as Newt undoes himself.
This is,and has always been Mitts nomination to lose...so far he has done little to disuade voters to stop their search for an alternative but on the other hand he as done nothing that will bar those same voters from coming back to him after finding the others lacking.
