Just quickly, both because Cheri has nicely asked us not to go there, and because there is a sunrise I'm enjoying, I liked Rudy long before 9/11, and even longer before crossing the aisle.

As I pointed out on another thread, and have been saying for a while all over the place, any R candidate is going to be painted in the worst possible light, both in the media, and by the amoral hacks who inhabit our forums here only during the official campaign seasons.

She asked Republicans.

Well I'm not a Republican either. I'm a registered Independent. But I've been leaning toward the Republicans for a candidate I can support. Obama is going to be the Democrat nominee, and in my opinion he's proved himself to be an empty suit.

Unfortunately, looks like no cigar.

K.

If I recall you're in Florida.  As a registered independent you can't vote in a republican primary or unlikely in any primary unless I'm mistaken about that.  I registered republican so I could vote in the primaries and because my political philosophy is closer to them though I would call myself an independent.

As to the OP  I would  agree with your response on post #3 except maybe on question 3 but I'm not certain though.  I would go with Rubio on question 3 off the top of my head, at least for the moment.

As a Republican, I will be voting for Huntsman in the primary, and hopefully for him in the general election. If he doesn't make it, I'll either vote for a strong third party candidate (unlikely to happen) or vote for Obama.

I did hope someone else ran, but Huntsman will be good enough.

I would have liked it if Bloomberg ran as a Republican.

Those guys can call themselves republicans if they want but they would make better democrats.  And how do you call yourself a republican if you would vote for Obama ?

I think they are strong, honest, and proud Republicans. They are Republicans that stand for their principles, and aren't willing to kowtow antiintellectual and antimoderate dogma that propagates my party in recent years.

People will often vote cross-party if they feel their choices in their own party are inadequate. You'll note that, according to Gallup, almost a quarter of conservatives approve of the President's performance.

The guys you're talking about are a problem as far as I'm concerned because of their less than conservative / moderate dogma. They don't always stand for what I have understood was republican philosophy.

And I really would have to see that Gallup poll because I don't believe it. In fact if the poll really shows that I would guess there were a bunch of liars taking part in it.

This has always bothered me, people who will vote for the party above the candidate.  Always voting your party makes them take all of us for granted.  The parties have gotten more and more to the point where a vote for a Dem is equivalent to a vote against a Rep, and vice versa.  I'm going to start voting for more third party candidates - once candidates have to sell themselves instead of simply trashing their major party opponent, you'll see some reform.  Not till then.

I'd call the people you're talking about banner-wavers: people who hold party over country. But hey, different strokes for different folks.

In either case, here's the poll results I was talking about. In the cross tabs, you can see the precent of conservatives that approve of the President's performance. The past four results have put the percentages at 24%, 22%, 24%, and 21%.

http://www.gallup.com/poll/124922/Presidential-Approval-Center.aspx

By the way, just because you dislike the results of something, doesn't mean it is a lie. Be careful with that term.

Doesnt matter how many times you offer "cold hard facts" they wont even look, let alone work it out so that it is acceptable knowledge

You can call it banner waving but I would call it a philosophy of government.  And anyone who would vote for Obama can call themselves conservative if they want but it ain't so.

Each party has their particular philosophy of government.  If a candidate affiliates himself with the party that has a philosophy I disagree with, what else can I do but vote for the other guy in the party I'm more in line with. I guess I could just sit it out because much of the time I don't like the guy in the party I would aline myself with. What would you suggest ?

Edited to add:
I agree with the "take all of us for granted" point.

Again edited to add:
You did suggest voting for a third party. I don't entirely agree with that though I have done it in the past.

Parties have a particular governmental philosophy, but it is a candidate's own philosophy that is far more important.

Just because I am a Republican doesn't mean that I'm going to want to vote for Bachmann/Cain/Perry. I like to pretend that they aren't really Republicans, but belong to the "Happy-Kooky-Crazy" party.

Ya don't have to pretend because they're not,  it would be all the democrats that belong to the "Happy-Kooky-Crazy" party.

We`re honest about the safety net and keeping the environment from getting completely trashed. Most people are ok with that.

We aren`t in your bedroom, your womb or your worried about how you pray. That,is what small government should mean.

We're ok with safety nets and keeping the envirnment from getting completely trashed. Squandering trillions of dollars and squandering more trillions to combat man made global warming is not ok.

Good thing I don't see you in my bedroom or my womb, you'd likely get shot    but small government means a whole lot more than that. And who the hell is worried about how you pray ?
