Just wondering tazzy... you did see where for the first time in many years America is an exporter of energy. Otherwise we sell more energy than we buy. So I doubt under any circumstance energy costs would double if oil did.

Butch

If we export anything...a paper clip....we're an exporter.

The term you're hoping it means is that we're a "net exporter" (meaning we export more than we take in).

We are not a net exporter of energy.

I'm not sure that's how it works: you're hardly short of dinosaur fossils in the American continent, and those have been laid down almost as long as the oil, haven't they?

farglebargle -> RE: Iran says price of oil would double (12/5/2011 5:36:52 AM)

Who the hell cares? The moment we stop BURNING oil, we have all we need to make all the tupperware we can use.

And there's no reason to burn oil, other than our legislators listening to their Corporate Masters, rather than the people who elected them to office.

Go ahead. Turn off the oil. Then we'll HAVE TO move forward into the future.

Oil deposits are laid down in a completely different environment (shallow seas) from terrestrial (dinosaur) fossils and are from a different era.

Anyone who thinks we can just stop using oil for energy and be fine doesnt know the first thing about the global energy picture

I must be thinking of coal, then. Wrong fossil fuel.

How did you guess what the narrow minded people who just can't wrap their heads around the future will say in response?

Progress depends on us telling them to just Shut The Fuck Up and go back to playing with themselves. When we take over the universe, we'll send them a postcard.

Their kids can pump my gas in the future. Or maybe they're just unemployable because they can't see far enough to know that all the GOOD UNION JOBS are in orbit. My kids will be extracting gold and platinum from asteroids.

The defnition of "net exporter" can be quite deceptive. The Kansas City article, for example, talks about jet fuel, gasoline...ie refined oil products. The process of refining adds to the price, so even if 100% of the oil inputs were imported, refined and then exported, we would still be shown as a "net exporter", when in fact all of the oil is imported.

The fact is we COULD be a major net exporter of energy if we accessed our natural resources.

Term: They can build many refineries with the help of Russia.

True, but one doesn't just fly to Moscow and go to the Russian "Toys RUs" and pick up a Lego Refinery Kit. They take a while to bring online.

How much time do you think it would take to punch one up?
If they have nuclear facilities buried too deep to bomb could they not do likewise with their potential refinery?

Which ones would you bring on line and what is their life span?

The two articles you posted are more than a bit misleading. In the case of refining fuels, the u.s. refines fuel for many countries including venezuela.
The second article shows that we are exporting the tools and tooling needed to make modules not the modules themselves so that is not really exporting energy so much as it is exporting technology and machinery.

The point was simple enough, and a reply to your own argument. You act as if Israel is the only party in the Middle-East that wants to avoid a nuclear Iran. Thats completely false. Numerous Arab nations are concerned, particularly Saudi Arabia which you know very well is also extremely concerned, and offered to facilitate its enemies to strike Iran.
