I don't really know you, so I have no clue.

Well, you have expressed admiration for free markets in the past, so I'd assume you'd be in positive numbers along that axis.

If you have no clue why the snark about saving the quote of me saying Im more liberal than mainstream conservatives? The fiscal axis is easy to place me, its the social one where people misjudge me totally.

kalikshama -> RE: Where do you stand on the political compass (12/5/2011 2:59:41 PM)

I'm closest to Gandhi and the Dalai Lama! Sweet!

Well with that answer you are on no chart at all there, there is no fiscal axis, nor a social one.

It was a joke. The word liberal conjures up images of men in tweed jackets, bow ties, herbal teas, and salads composed of non-traditional lettuce. I doubted you would conjure up the same mental image, so I pointed out the humorous dichotomy.

tazzygirl -> RE: Where do you stand on the political compass (12/5/2011 3:06:59 PM)

Im just a bit more left, and a bit more authoritarian than you.

Economic Left/Right: -6.75
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -4.72

And I like being around the same compass point as Mandela and Gandhi

It would conjure up those images (plus a pipe) as a noun, but not as an adjective. :)

Im a 7.2, -.9

I've already been tested and dozens of times, it being such a pleasure.

But I already know I am an ultra-moderate, right wing, revolutionary...pacifist.

This is addressed in the FAQs:

http://www.politicalcompass.org/faq#faq1

1. Some of the questions are slanted

Most of them are slanted ! Some right-wingers accuse us of a leftward slant. Some left-wingers accuse us of a rightward slant. But it's important to realise that this isn't a survey, and these aren't questions. They're propositions - an altogether different proposition. To question the logic of individual ones that irritate you is to miss the point. Some propositions are extreme, and some are more moderate. That's how we can show you whether you lean towards extremism or moderation on the Compass.

Some of the propositions are intentionally vague. Their purpose is to trigger buzzwords in the mind of the user, measuring feelings and prejudices rather than detailed opinions on policy.

6. You should have a "don't know" option

This makes it too easy for people to duck difficult issues. By forcing people to take a positive or negative stance, the propositions make people really evaluate their feelings. Often people find they wanted to select 'don't know' mainly because they'd never really thought about the idea.

MedicineMan -> RE: Where do you stand on the political compass (12/5/2011 3:56:15 PM)

Libertarian, slightly right. With gun control questions, it would be more libertarian.

Fairly accurate. This one, however: http://www.theadvocates.org/quiz
places me much more on the libertarian side.

Was a silly test. This question for example:

quote:

Those with the ability to pay should have the right to higher standards of medical care.

I don't know how they scored this, but I put agree because I believe that in countries with public health care, there should always be the option to purchase private health care as well. But someone who was fully against public health care would also put 'agree' so where would the difference be?

Not silly at all. I guarantee you there are people on this board who would say no, everybody has the right to the same standards of medical care regardless of ability to pay.

Right but how do they judge 'agree' - is being 100% in favor of national healthcare suddenly a "right/conservative" viewpoint because you think that private healthcare should also be available?

"somewhat agree" covers that fairly well and would probably wind up with a middle score rather than a far right one. I dont disagree, but think their intent was to classify the disagrees and somewhat disagrees much further to the left.

Nonsense!

There are many issues people do not have a definitive view on even though they have thought about the issue.

Before going to the site, self assess where you would be on this chart, then take the test and report back. (honestly, if you can bear it when you see the result).

political compass

I placed myself in the blue. The test placed me in the purple.

Economic Left/Right: 2.50
Social Libertarian/Authoritarian: -2.46

I will agree with Ron that the test needed a "neutral" option.

But the question itself is evidence that the US health care regime is to develop 'higher standards' medicine even if it means fewer and fewer can afford it. Socialized medicine they think erroneously...would get in their way.

EVERYBODY is covered in Germany and they have state-of-the-art medical care. Same with other European countries. Yes, and at an overall 1/2 as much $ per...than here.
