A lie, repeated often enough, will end up as truth. Dr Paul Joseph Goebbels, Hitler's Minister of Propaganda (1933-1945), invented the Big Lie theory;

http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Joseph_Goebbels . source for the above.

It appears that both said it.

Interesting, thanks for that. Perhaps some will suggest it indicative of a certain similarity between the two ideologies but that is a discussion for another day or another thread ...

The truly interesting thing about all this is that Fox News (and a few others on the other side) uses the methods of Lenin and Goebbels.

All I have been exposed to by Fox is read a few articles, and they really didn't seem that bad!! lol I'll be killed for saying that but it made me wonder what Owner et al are on about.

Left and right are the same thing - the only difference is who gets the money and who gets priority.

The foolish are there, like spectators at a football or baseball match, rooting for their side and believing that they have the influence and power.

They're usually too busy yelling that they know more than Mickey Mantle or JoeDiMaggio.

But you know, someone who resents paying taxes calling a bunch of elected politicians who have gone out of their way to serve the public PIGS - as I'm sure anyone with half a brain will agree with irrespective of their opinions - says far more about the speaker than it does about those he is addressing.

My graph, I think it's relatively close.

Well, I am a libertarian. More specifically, I adhere to anarcho-capitalism. I believe people should be able to do whatever they want as long as they do not harm others. Legalise drugs (you smoking a joint or consuming a pill does not hurt your neighbour), wear arms (you being able to retaliate aggressors is a legitimate reason to carry arms), indulge in any offerless crime (prostitution, blackmail, gambling, what have you), etc. Now, I would never do any of these things myself but I do not see the problem in other people doing this. It is not going to affect me.

As long as you use at home and do not attempt to drive afterwards, I agree.

Not a term I am familiar with. Mind explaining?

The negative refers to where you land on the X and Y axis. Remember 8th grade math? Cartesian planes?

I think she meant the negative connotation from calling it "-" instead of appeasing her senstivity by reversing the traditional positions. Either that or would prefer a mapping of the axes to start at 0,0. Then she would be a 4, 2 (see thread on standarized testing) [:D]

No, that would be an act of extreme kindness and way above and beyond the call of duty.

Yeah, I take back the mapping idea. Authoritarian/fiscal conservatives would still be bigger numbers, implying better. [:D] Back to reversing them totally.

Speaking of putting folks on a compass, did you read Chaos Manor today?

Pournelle does it with military officers: http://jerrypournelle.com/jerrypournelle.c/chaosmanor/

In classic military science, officers are divided into Brilliant vs. Stupid, and Lazy vs. Active. Now understand, these are relative terms: we are assuming that this is not Lake Wobegon, and even the Stupid can be pretty smart compared to the general population; stupid is probably the wrong word although it is the one generally used in these discussions. You will see what I mean in a moment.

This produces four classes of officers. What do you do with them?

First, the commanders, from company to regiment to division to army to army group: which class do you want as commanders? The answer is that you want them Brilliant and Lazy. Then for their Chief of Staff you want the Brilliant and Active. The reasoning is simple enough. The Active tend never to leave well enough alone. They drive the troops mad with new schemes for improvement. Your units go to hell.

However, you need the Brilliant and Active in the picture, just not as commanders. Someone has to recognize problems and look for solutions and agitate for improvements. You want the man at the top to understand this, and select among the various recommendations those which are needed – and which are affordable. But you want the agitation for improvement, else things atrophy.

So far so good. Now what do you do with the Stupid and Lazy? Why, that’s the bulk of your officer corps. They follow orders, and if they come up with awful ideas they aren’t so active as to try to implement them. As to the Stupid and Active, you encourage them to get out and go away. You have no place for them.
