Me, no, but I know MANY realtime gamers. I am enchanted by the little figures, but gaming just never clicked for me.

Unfortunately, though I was a full on nerd when I was a kid, and still am now, I could never find enough like minded nerds to join me in playing the full D&D games. I just used to stick to the card ones I could persuade one of my younger brothers to play with me. I always loved the whole idea of playing the games with others, but as they need a group of people to enjoy it more, it was never something I experienced. I tend to stick to playing RPGs on games on my Gamecube or PS1 now. :)

Hooked up my daughters iPad last weekend to vidchat with my son so he could DM us from San Diego. The two oldest grandson's, my daughter and myself were the group this time. That group is on a continuing quest in which to find 13 children who are destined to unite and then either good things or bad things are going to happen. Usually bad things happen which makes things much more interesting and much more fun!

My son, oldest grandson and I all take turns DMing. I will be DMing our "Are You Sure We're in Hell?" campaign (which we started about 2 years ago) during the Xmas holiday when my son comes up to visit. We play 2nd ed with some tweaks to allow for specialty characters. (We don't look at the player handbook as a book of rules so much as a book of guidelines.)

We keep extra clothes, weapons and such around for guests because you can't play if you don't dress. We are serious about our entertainment! We even have extra capes and cloaks (with or without hoods) if you need one. :D The dollhouse my daughter and I are making is specifically for one of her wizard characters so we are making lots of magical items and stuff for it including a full set of spell books and books of magic. (I have pics of our dollhouse stuff.. hehe)

So, yes.. big time gamer here from way back.. raised my kids to be gamers and have even converted some of their friends into the group.

Himself does not play but he does make chain mail for us which is pretty cool.

Oh, I do not DnD on Sundays during football season. I do have my priorities after all. We generally start a session around noon, order pizza for dinner and finish up somewhere around 2 or 3 AM the next morning so.. 12 - 15 hours a couple of times a month spending quality/creative time together with friends and family. Sooo much fun and we laugh our nerdy little heads off most of the time.

Love to see that dollhouse. Maybe we'll be inspired.

We use text instead of video for remote, being used to the old PBMs of the BBS days and later PBPs. Still get together a few times a month, though usually WoD (VtM/MtA, mostly) and some homebrews off of books (WoT, SoT, etc.) or series (BSG, SGA, SG1, FS, etc.). When certain kids start amusing themselves, we might get back to the good old twice-a-week schedule (we wish...).

Every once in a while, when the right people are around, and the nostalgia hits us, we'll whip out the old 2020 or somesuch, make like it's the 80's again and we're stuck in a Gibson/WJW collaboration.

Health,
al-Aswad.

Too bad you are not close to Atlanta. They have one of the first still running and have between 45 to 80 players once a month.

As to the OP - Still have all my old second ed stuff in a box in storage. It has been over 10 years.

There is an online www.ddo.com you can play for free but it is not really much RPing, and treated like a first person hack and slash. Nice thing is only PvP in desiganted brawling areas, and everything else is quest based.

One thing I did see a few years back was a huge pdf of the 2E AD&D stuff: the Players' and DMs' guides, most of the "Complete [Whatevah]" books, loads of other add ons like the Book of Magic and what have you.

Last time I checked, WOTC were keeping the current version (billed as D&D, but it's pretty blatantly AD&D from what I've seen of it) in print, and older versions, which may well be what you're after, are all over ebay and abebooks. A few of the games companies are happy to sell the stuff through their websites as well: Mongoose (Traveller and Runequest) and WOTC in particular are noted for that...
