Blushes, apparently you did not realize it but you were referencing one
of the most famous scenes and quotes in the history of the movies. A
great movie, Casablanca
Claude Rains played inspector Renault, who gets his payoffs from Rick
by "winning" at Rick's gambling tables. Rick makes sure he does so Rick
can continue to operate. When the Nazis force him to close Ricks down
this scene follows:
Rick: How can you close me up? On what grounds?
Captain Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!
[a croupier hands Renault a pile of money]
Croupier: Your winnings, sir.
Captain Renault: [sotto voce] Oh, thank you very much.
[aloud]
Captain Renault: Everybody out at once! (Dialogue from Casablanca)
Whenever you hear anyone say "shocked! shocked! tongue in cheek, that
is what they are referring to. Even if they don't know it. The way you used
it I assumed you did. So I did not explain the reference.
