Oft have I seen the words "I have been here for ?? years beneath other names". Is the persona discarded less "real" than that but newly assumed?

We all have the option to create ourself anew through such a medium of anonymity as is offered by this forum, and thus however might we know who is the "real" and who the "fake"?  However might we know who is the typist for each username?

These are the issues that concern me when such a topic arises, also that such accusations cannot be shown to be real, and do but foster distrust and animosity. These are emotions of ill health to be avoided are they not?

I am going on vacation to somewhere near Greedy lives. We are going to see each other.
We talk to each other on the phone.
Now, if I were...say...someone pretending to be someone from another country, who would presumably have an accent, that wouldn't go fade away at times, it would be difficult to maintain my persona. (if I were not that person)
But...since I have friends here on this board, a couple who even work with me (and speak with me often)...welll..then it becomes more difficult for me to maintain my pretend self.
So...some people are real....
and some are pretend....
some can prove who they are
and some can't.
Then again there's always cam. (but it'll cost ya) ; )

Status: offline 		And then there are people like me -- i rarely talk to people off the boards, i have allowed very few people on these boards become close enough to me to remotely go from online to phone. I don't cam with anyone. I have been here for years and always under the same nick. Am i real -- i would suspect no -- not to people i haven't allowed to exist in my life outside of these boards. Am i a participant in an anonymous way in discussions on the board -- yep, that's why i am here. I also have never seen the boards as a place to be social or to make friends etc. I have made friends over the years but that was never the reason i came here - i love discussion and its a mindless way to past time for me.

The thing what most people who do the double duty thing don't get is it's not easy to change your style when you have an automatic style. So while you may be able to do it occassionally or get away with it for a while, eventually the facade starts to meld with your automatic natural style and people become suspect.

The problem is the people who utilize socks in a mysterious way and in a secretive way, think they are smarter than everyone else so they think they will get away with it and play everyone for fools. they don't get that eventually, they are recognized -- maybe people online can't say with absolute proof, but the recognition and familiarity shows through.

Which is "real"? How many names do you have? I have only this one.

I have never seen Raptor deny that name is a sock puppet. There are a few more than readily admit to that. I give them as much credence as I do someone who I have caught in a lie.

Hiding behind false names to make attacks is what we are speaking of. Many have new names, many have also posted on the profiles or their tag lines what names they were before. That I respect.

What I do not respect is when people dust off an old name to slam others, then run and hide like children giggling behind their mommies skirts.

But my disturbing hobby has more to do with talking to men on the phone and "making" them do things that they'd "never" do on their own...

This I agree is not a thing I find appropriate, yet it is not a thing I find a worry, a name that has appeared with its creation to attack is most plain and thus of no consequence.

I also find the speculation on such in public to not be appropriate. As has been said elsewhere, one has no knowledge upon which to base such a claim, only suspicion and rumour. It is but gossip.

I find most socks funny and the not so funny ones usually tend to say what many people already think, imo.. but if someone is a dumb shit then a sock speaking its mind about it isnt gonna change the dumb shit anyway.. it can be entertaining tho..

getting rid of socks isnt gonna change the drama level here, imo.. only way to do that is people stopping with their childish personal attacks and insults, either voluntarily or by enforcement

Thats not the case with Bvroadband in the UK. The majority of users have a dedicated IP. that said, some Broadband privders have a generic IP.

Dial up is different as you get a random IP each time you log on.

Status: offline 		I have to say that this whole sock issue has sort of made me feel sad about these boards.  I really wanted to believe that there were 4 hot lesbians in Canada....and now I don't know if they really exist, or are just the figment of some 57 year old dude living in a basement in Cleveland.  That is part humor, and part very real sadness at how silly all this has gotten.

For me, this now deeply colors with suspicion the previous threads in which we have had good discussion - like the Transgender thread.  Was any of that poll stuff even close to being real?  What about all the other threads that they participated on?  How can anything any of them have ever said be trusted or believed? 

Same for Arpig...NS...AneNoz...and God knows who else...

And it now leaves me wondering why I am even wasting my time here.

jmo, but the 4 hot lesbians do exist in Canada.. When Cheri first questioned her faith, when her friend was brutally murdered (I googled and read news reports of it so i know that was true).. and the sadness, grieving, questions about her faith, those all seemed very real to me.. seriously, how could she be a sock puppet? If she is not then none of the others are socks either..

I think this whole suspecting everyone is a sock puppet thing is out of control!..

I think a lot of the accusations of sock puppetry come from a few people thinking. "There can't be this many people that disagree with My Divine Righteous Thoughts."
