So much for the "few bad apples" hypothesis. Escalating violence is the POLICY of the police. That's why they show up with all the weapons.

On the contrary, sanity, I think it is that 1-2% of the police that loses the 'hearts and minds battle" that the other 98-9% are fighting (and would otherwise win) every day. The only mystery to me is why that 1-2% are tolerated and even protected by the vast majority of their coworkers.

All those few do is bring shame upon and skew public opinion of an otherwise honorable profession.

ETA, at least you appear to be admitting that the wrongdoing in OWS camps might not be an act of the majority of the protestors but an act of a very few anarchists/sociopaths.

And of course, since police are given special authority, they are held to higher standards. One of them, of course, being to enforce the Law, not just beat up Jews, Hippies, Latinos and Blacks...

Yes, one bad apple spoils the whole barrel farg. And a mob of rioters also has special authority of sorts if you think about it.

However, such rioters have no standards, do they.

Status: offline 		Governments using people to turn mass demonstrations violent is a tried and true tactic that has been used for many decades, maybe longer. It allows the government to discredit the protestors and halt their message. Now that Homeland Security is coordinating the response of dozens of local police agencies to the OWS movement, one has to wonder if these policies are not just local, but national.

Status: offline 		I don't know about that.  When the lawless republican goon and thug hurled his mother down the steep rock staircase to an almost certain death after a listening to a night of Ronald Reagans words, that seemed pretty brain damaged to me.

And then there was that guy who could not recognize an american flag, I can only conjecture it is due to brain damage.

And the fellow that compared the gulf oil spill to a coke can on a football field, that was certainly brain damage that affected his perception.

There is more, of course, but we will rest there for the moment.

There is an investigation into the treatment of groups(especially journalism and freedom of the press) by the police from all over the country and even outside, so there is more than conjecture like yours.
