Have you ever spent time in front of a tv switching the newschannels between FOX and most anyother that hasn't declared themselves rabid republicians? Trying to inform oneself with this method can cause some serious bouts of disbelief, and you accuse MM of twisting the news. What he did was expose the underbelly that taints the news before it's presented to us.

I think Moore can be a bit over the top in his behavior at times, but he is presenting straight footage and interviews, and citing facts that are documented, otherwise he would be involved in countless lawsuits.  Moore is a movie maker, so he made  Fahrenheit 911 and presented facts, footage and interviews in an artistic and interesting way (It was a documentary, that's what a documentary is).  He didn't make up the facts, or create/fabricate the footage.  I don't see the controversy.

No, that's propaganda, at least the way he does it. When artistic license takes you so far as to imply untrue things and portray things in a misleading fashion, it ceases to be a documentary.

Just to scratch the surface of what's wrong with the film:
1. The film implies the Bush family is hevaily connected to Osama Bin Laden through the Bin Laden family. The fact is the Osama's family long ago disowned him. To make a reasonable comparison, this is like demonizing someone for having heavy ties to the McVeigh family.

2. The visit of Taliban members to Texas during Gee Dubya's term as governor gives the false impression Bush was somehow conencted to the visit. He was not. They were meeting with oil companies reps under authorization from President Clinton (before Clinton imposed sanctions on Afghanistan).

3. Continuing on the Taliban connections, he makes a big fuss out of Unocal and Halliburton being awarded contracts for the pipeline. He completely fails to mention that after Clinton launched missle attacks on Afghanistan, the plans were dropped. That was in 1998. The plans were again confirmed as dropped in 1999 and again in 2002. Can you say red herring?

4. The President Bush 42% vacation time assertion is plainly false. Just for starters, it counts time spent with foreign officials as vacation time, which is obviously misleading if not an outright lie.

Starting to see what the controversy is?

I have no problem if Moore earns 100k a speech, but I wish he would be more {pun intended} honest and a little bit less sanctimonious.[;)]

Progressive taxes are one thing, since it does make sense to balance it based on ability to pay. But Michael Moore goes over the deep end on his rants about how weighted the tax scheme should be for the top earners.

It's worth mentioning what a piece of s*** hypocrite he is about the subject as well. He has used a large number of tax shelters in order to shield his millions from taxes. For example, he created a corporation to hold ownership of his home to reduce his tax burden. He also owns stock in such companies as Halliburton. (He denies this, but his tax returns say otherwise.) So really, anything he has to say against companies like Halliburton or in favor of heavier taxes for the rich rings much more strongly of pandering to an audience than any actual heartfelt belief.

If you want to talk socialists who put their money where their mouth is, let's talk about Ralph Nader. Damned if I don't strongly disagree with the man, but he actually lives a simple lifestyle and pays his taxes.

The problem is Moore is not being honest. At some points he goes to extreme length to mangle together information, edited clips and other resources in completely dishonest fasions.

He also doesn't need that 35k to pay for his films. He's a known draw and can easily secure funding. He also is quite the wealthy multimillionaire now. Long gone are the days of Roger and Me.

The left needs someone like Michael Moore to counter the outrageous shite of Ann Coulter and others.  Disparaging him for not being fully accurate is missing the point entirely.

Termyn8or -> RE: 911 questuon (6/1/2006 10:23:48 PM)

Whatever the need, people have to realize what has happened. You cannot sue the local news for using your pic, video or even an interview. If so Howierd Stern would'nt have those hilarious "Man on the street" interviews.

If you are an artist and render a painting which depicts a city skyline well enougn so people can tell, you can be sued for royaties.

The Supreme court of the US has ruled that the media can lie anytime they want to.

Let's not talk about this anymore, what kind of gameboy should I buy ?

Not really a great example to make your point. Reading what the suit claims and the actual description of what the film contained, I would not support the suit.
He said nothing about the war in the clip, just about the pain.
