I am disgustingly mellow and drama free. I go to work as I should, pay my bills, have good relationships, live healthy. I know how to handle being caught in front of the shit fan of life. I don't freak out and run around with hand flapping screeching "whatever shall I dooooooooooo?!?!?!?!" I just go into 'find a plan' mode and carry on. I really never had the life option to be crazy. Too many responsibilities and people depending upon me to be sane.

I've more or less worked through my issues, no meds and my therapist says I don't need to see her unless I feel the need. My only real remaining issue is with my mother, and I simply don't want to resolve that one.

One thing about having kids, and pets is that no matter what else is going on, their care and well being comes first. That's what keeps me centered

Been there, went for help, fine now. Fourth generation mood disorder. Except for the racing thoughts at bedtime. Them I self medicate by doing sudoku until the only thing in my brain are grids and numbers. The occasional anxiety attacks I just deal with.

Well hell's bells I have gotten through grad school, taking care of sick folks, work, all that, while dealing with what used to be called a "nervous breakdown". Life, yanno! I plan to go barking mad when I retire, I figure I'll have earned it.

You do realize that clinically insane people think of themselves as perfectly sane and "normal"? They don't see themselves as others see them anymore than sane do or can. One of the cliches about mental illness is that a person who is out and about working and going to the gym, etc can't be mentally ill. But that isn't true. A person who has gotten the help they need can work, play and love like any other. They might even have a advantage over all the supermen and women who deflect illness with their inborn awesomeness, because they have suffered and have empathy because it. Empathy being a positive thing in human interactions. You also have people who are superficially sane. Smart and outgoing and successful and batshit crazy when you look closely. Narcissists can be worldly successful. Sociopaths to. Bipolors during a manic phase can be magnetic. Mental illness manifests itself in all sorts of ways. Even "winners" can be afflicted.
