So you admit that up until now he hadn't really earned it. I guess that's a step in the right direction.[8|]

So are you thinking he "earned" his Peace Prize with the drone assassinations, or by creating the "remote control" exception to the War Powers Act?

Owner59 -> RE: WH OKs GITMO detention of US citizens (12/18/2011 10:33:27 AM)

Nope.

Getting us out of Iraq.We know a leader keeping a promise is foreign to you but we like it.

Ending torture.Lefting us out of the savagery that our worst enemies use.

Making peace with the moderate Muslim world.

Restoring our nation`s reputation of good will and being the good guy.Like in Libya.

Why do you keep mentioning "the drones" like you have a fish on the line or something? You have nothing more than an old tire snagging your hook on that one.

"General reply:

Iran has never been as isolated and alone, than it is today. That is because of mature, thoughtful and effective leadership by President Obama. He has brought the world`s leaders to bear against Iran.bush swagger and belligerence only helped the Iranians and made friends for them.

TheHeretic -> RE: WH OKs GITMO detention of US citizens (12/18/2011 11:16:32 AM)

You really should read some Orwell, O59. "Failure is success," would fit right into the world he imagined.

Also, you may have missed that there is a fair bit less of the "moderate Muslim world," than when he took office.

But let's not hijack. Do tell us how signing off on this military detention policy enhances his resume as a Nobel Peace Prize winner.

Owner59 -> RE: WH OKs GITMO detention of US citizens (12/18/2011 12:59:58 PM)

Oh Jesus....more of your Orwell abuse.

There is nothing closer in the world today to Orwell`s nightmare than today`s republican party.

You even have your own media outlet.....your own "ministry of truth"...in fox

Folks,

Is it that far fetched that someone obsessed with Orwell`s world would also embody it`s worst traits and exemplify them?

If you want me to quit referencing one of the great political authors of the 20th Century, I'm afraid you'll need to try asking much more politely than that.

I'm curious though, how you can claim to know that the Republicans are more Orwellian than your party of choice, when you obviously didn't do your homework with the book in high school, and refuse to read it now, even when offered a link to a free copy online.

Has the bill went up for signing?  I dont think it has, there will be no reconciliation between house and senate will there?

I'm thinking he won it for racheting down the defcon from Ws impudence and despotism.

And btw, he didn't 'create' any sort of exception, the law is clear and he was well within it.  As a side issue, Barry Goldwater clearly said  repeatedly that he wished this law would be tested in a way it went to  SCOTUS because it is clearly unconstitutional (I agree even though I get the idea and support it somewhat)  and fought against it all his days, and I see many people now throwing him under the bus.

He's really earning that Nobel peace prize, ain't he?

Under the Orwell Doctrine of 1984, yes.

Were you quoting Buckley or Galbraith?  Or from the socialist mein Alinski?  No Engels there,  I saw Orwell, and would classify him as a novelist, an essayist, a critic,  hell; an old english boy born in India, and therefore Kiplingesque, or even anti-Utopian, including anti-Rand, but not horridly political, you are stretching in my mind....but I do all in all take your point.

So everyone else in the world has it wrong but you guys.....Is that it?lol

Sorry but the guys using torture in the novel, were the bad guys.

Which party employed torture and still calls for it today?

Sorry children, but the alternate reality is your`s.

One has to be very careful of folks who take works of fiction to seriously.

Rich is doing with 1984 what the rightwing kooks are doing w/ the Turner Diary's,Atlas Shrugs and the Elders Of Zion....taking fiction and treating it like non-fiction and applying it to their creepy ends
.
