my computer is always on mute. I don't like sound from anything on a computer unless it's specific music I am playing. It just gives me a headache. So the ads don't bother me. I just figure it's a free site. I can either put up with it or leave.

GreedyTop -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:07:02 AM)

well, since I am usually playing the music on my computer, the fucking sound banner ads fuck with my listening pleasure.

Lockit -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:11:25 AM)

Well, I will be looking for a way to stop all the ads now. I will deal with ads, like to see some of them and have used some... but sound, messing with whatever I might have going on... dictating when I can be on the site or messing with my music or whatever else I have going on... won't happen. It is either kill the ads or not use the site.

Lucylastic -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:12:12 AM)

I wouldnt boycott CM, but would blast the people at whoever made the banner. Not that it makes that much difference to them. Quite often these days, the actual site holder has little input on the types of ads they're advertisers use, its the banner "makers" themselves that need blasting. I am the same as you in the respect that I usually only use the sound when Im listening to music. I prefer my own noise over ready made. Ive made a couple for some sites, and the "marketing angle" blurb reads is that even if its annoying its making people notice the brand. I wont have music in mine on principle.

Lucylastic -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:17:13 AM)

okies I just heard it, and no I wouldnt want that coming out of my speakers no matter who was in the house, that was handy:) off to be a bitch

Lockit -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:18:26 AM)

Okay.. that was one time too many. I'm done. I find a way to kill these fuckers that doesn't mess with any other site I am on or I'm out. That last one pissed me off.

Lucylastic -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:22:07 AM)

Lockit -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:22:36 AM)

HeatherMcLeather -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:25:42 AM)

Simple solution: Adblock.

No ads, no sounds.

Its available for Internet Explorer: http://simple-adblock.com/
For Firefox: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/adblock-plus/
For Safari: http://safariadblock.com/
And for Chrome:

PeonForHer -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:30:19 AM)

FR

Hmmm. I use Chrome with Adblocker Plus. This kills most ads. I've never tried it with CM's ads, because they don't bother me - but I will do, and report back.

Lucylastic -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:32:50 AM)

nods I have adblock, i recommend it heartily. New ways around it crop up but it works, I had to add the exclusion by hand for this one

PS Heather, Thankyou for the email !!!!

exclusion? by hand?

Lockit -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:38:25 AM)

Yes, I just added adblock and I am still getting the ad. Guess I get to learn how to add the extension on this. So wasn't into learning anything today. lol I've never done something like this in all the years I've been online. Fucking old ladies with computers! lol

Lucylastic -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:38:47 AM)

yeah, I blocked out the particular site it came from under the options , exclusion of the particular ad, /website/ location
under options
by hand, = manually, its not automatic

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:41:47 AM)

I have adblock and it didn't block it, but now the ad is gone for me...

I didnt know you could specify..
i have an adblocker on my computer on always. So far this ad has not shown up to me.. (doesnt mean it wont tho)
but now that i know its possible, i will try to block those sneaky netflix ads that make it thru the next time they show up..
thanks [:)]

Lockit -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 10:55:38 AM)

I added adblock... made it no ads because I couldn't stop that ad, restarted and still I cannot get rid of any ad or the sound ad. I do not want to tweak this and that trying to do it either. When I am tired or have a headache, I am not ruining something to deal with it. So for the moment... I am shutting down on the other side.

Lockit -> RE: Banner Ad with Sound (12/15/2011 11:01:40 AM)

I killed it!!!!!!! [:D] Old ladies can learn... some days.
