for an acceptable tip for a delivery person?

I know the rate for servers (how many threads on that specific subject I've lost count) but what about someone who delivers groceries to your home? (Peapod)

Is it 25% across the board or is that requirement for servers only?

I never thought of it being a "rate" percentage wise, I always figured it was a per-job thing. So if you live in a fourth floor walk up and you ordered a case of pepsi, that warranted a bigger tip than a dozen eggs to the first floor. Five bucks a bag?

I am just trying to wrap my head around the idea of having someone deliver my groceries.

Where I live, they won't even deliver a pizza, and I don't blame them!

Oh how I enjoyed living in Poland..

This was very clear.. any gratuity was expressed through a half litre of decent vodka.

For officials and civil servants it was good coffee, cakes, donuts, and/or chocolate.

For officials higher up and to 'solve problems' it was a bottle of Johnnie Walker Scotch whisky. However I was smart enough to bring back a couple of bottles of Glenfiddich whenever I visited the UK. Handing someone the cardboard tube of Glenfiddich never failed to light up Polish eyes and at least once solved the problem of being an illegal alien.

When I taught English privately to people the cost of one hour was enough to buy you a decent bottle of vodka.

I apply the same rule in the UK but it comes out as 'a drink'.

ETA: For people in the UK dealing with Poles the relevant word is 'flaszka' (pron. flash-ka). They will understand.

Grocery loader: Check with store policy if tips are accepted. If so, $1 for bringing bags to car; $1.50 to $3 if you have more than 3 bags.

Food delivery person:* 10% of the bill (excl. tax), at least $1 for bills up to $10. Should tip 15%-20% for a difficult delivery.

Problem is, you may already be paying a delivery fee. Just dont make the mistake of assuming all that goes to the drivers, it doesnt. I would go with 3 dollars or 15% of the bill, whichever is greater.

Any "delivery fee" I presume is going to the store not the driver.

Pizza drivers get 50 cents per mile. Which isnt enough to cover wear and tear. But some people insist that it should be taken into consideration.

The drug stores and grocery stores here deliver. I tip 20% of the bill. But thats just me.

In the videos I've watched, a blowjob is standard for pizza delivery.

I have a pizza parlor where the drivers are not very service oriented.

I pay a $2.00 delivery charge and I assume that half of that goes to the driver. That being said, there are some drivers who are not quite as ridiculous as others.

Sometimes, I get a call when they are leaving their shop saying: "Pizza's outside". The shop is three blocks away. Dummy me, trying to be nice, I'm standing out in the freezing cold, waiting for this guy thinking: "If I wanted to freeze my nuts off, I could have gone and picked up the pizza myself." Generally, that driver gets to keep whatever coin is left to make an even dollar amount.

I could avail myself of the Peapod delivery service (Stop & Shop uses them) but, I never have. I'm guessing that they have to make at least minimum wage ($7.50 per hour in my state) and I probably wouldn't tip too much more than 15% unless the service was exemplary.

Just as a "balance": When I walk into a restaurant, the server starts out at 25% and whether they go up or down from there depends upon their service. I never fault the server when the kitchen fouls up. I do ask the server to relay my dismay, though.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

To be honest I never thought about paying a tip to the guy who delivered my grocery...when I was living in the UK...I thought that thats what the fee was for which they charge anyway per delivery and srsly...as I only ordered with them four times a year they had an easy job cause once I was done, half their van was empty...though, of course, I realise now...just like the pizza man, I could have paid them a tip, too *puts head in shame*

They dont get half. Of all the deliveries, and it doesnt matter if its 2 or 20, in the US they get 50 cents a mile. If they deliver 10 and travel 5 miles, the charge is 20 for the restaurant, the driver gets 2.50.
