Are we seriously blaming the mother for feeding her child a well known and trusted government approved baby formula?

What Tazzy said. Not everyone wants to, and among those who want to, not everyone can.

Try reading blushes, nowhere did I blame anyone. She said "what else (besides formula)would you feed an infant? I wrote "breast milk". No blame just a simple answer.

This is the whole of what I was responding to. My answer was "breast milk" as it appeared that Tazzy couldn't see an infant being fed anything else.

This has happened before. When my son was born many stores recalled formula because of some kind of contamination. It was really upsetting because he had a protein allergy and I found out I couldn't keep breatfeeding him because it was making him sick. I have to say that at least they have learned to recall themselves rather than wait until they are told they have to do it.

ETA- It was Enfamil than too.

The "what else" was intended to imply steak and potatoes.

I did read. How could I possibly have responded if I hadn't read?
It wasn't directed (only) to you, Fire. It was (more) directed at the person who said "what the eff is a mother doing feeding formula to a ten day old baby?".
It did seem that there was blame being assigned to this poor lady.

Round these parts, if they are 10 days old and aint eatin pintos and taters, we know they will grow up to be a wimp.

Would I lie?

As to the breast/formula thing, I wanted to breastfeed, but he had jaundice and, after taking enough fluids from a bottle to be kept under the lights, he decided that the bottle was easy, the breast was work.  Rather than make feeding in to a battle, I made it into a great bonding thing, as it is supposed to be, and gave him the bottle.

At 10 days old, he coulda died from something in formula, except for the grace of gawd and all that shit.  If anyone even slightly blames the mom for this, well, I have done very well with no golden letters, and I don't wanna make the mods work today, so I will just say, bless their hearts.

Lawyers... its all about money, not that I blame them.

People can accept injuries happen. But the death of a child almost always means to the person or group responsible will pay heavily. Juries just wont accept that as an acceptable loss... nor should they. Leaving it in the market just increases the liability towards what would be viewed as a company who knew the risks and didnt care... a double hit to the wallet.

You know, Tazzy, I know you are right...but...I would like to hope that someone in these companies care enough about their own kids, friends kids, other family memebers, that some of them are doing it for the right reason.

Oh, without a doubt. Rereading my post, it did make them out to be completely heartless. And I dont want to believe that either. But when you are speaking about recalls, its money, huge money, to pull those products off the market. Not to mention the ensuing fear that product will induce for years.

Yeah, I understood what you meant and like I said...I know you are right. Just as someone that has very little faith in her fellow humans to begin with if I don't try to keep a glimmer of hope that they aren't all evil, and some can still do things for the right reasons....well I own a gun but don't want to have to find a bell tower if you know what I mean. And I know what you mean about the fear it leaves in people when something like this happens too. That was why I clicke the thread when I read it. Because the first thing that came into my brain was 'this has happened before', but back then they were forced to recall rather than doing it themselves.

Not blame; more like astonishment. I mean, that's why women have breasts, right? To breast feed. Then Tazzy (and others) pointed out...
"Ummm... at 10 days, they are still considered a new born
Medications/complications can make it difficult to impossible to breast feed.
Not every woman wants to breast feed.
Not every woman is physically able to breast feed."

Ahhhh... OK. That makes sense. Hey, being childless, myself, I know fuck-all about babies. Except they drool.
