Ninebelowzero -> The shortest lay off ever. (12/23/2011 3:55:12 AM)

I work on a production line & the company dies on it's arse this time every year, so I was expecting a dear John letteranyway. However in an unprecedented act of manning the fuck up the MD called me in to his office at 4.30.pm personally to give me the bad news himself. Sorry no work, no parts, no orders yadda yadda. So I calmly thanked him for a years work & wished him & his family a happy Christmas & was asked to be ready to come back mid February.
Twas a feel good thanks but fuck off meeting.

At 11.00 this morning he called me to ask me to come back on the 3rd of Jan at 6.00am.

That I think is pretty fucking cool.

LOL! [sarcasm]You should have told him you had planned a holiday and were going to need time-and-a-half to work from JAN to FEB[/sarcasm]

So you slept through most of your layoff.

Is this managing director new?  Odd that he'd go to the effort to lay off people individually, and then contact and ask some back straight away.  Sounds like you're top of the list on recalls, though.  Congratulations!

He didn't with everyone just me. Last year I dumbed my CV down as there weren't any jobs for robotic engineers or production design specialists & got a start straight away. So every time we have a problem I have an immediate fix/solution. & I can talk the talk with the bosses about TPS/TPM & call bullshit when I hear it which stands me in good stead.
.
Yeah I'm golden bollocks. The real funny thing is I earn almost as much as a line grunt as I did as a desk jockey & this is more fun & is getting me really fit so I love it tbh.

Boss Hi, Nine. What's happening? We need to talk about your TPS reports.
Nine: Yeah. The coversheet. I know, I know. Uh, Bill talked to me about it.
Boss: Yeah. Did you get that memo?
Nine: Yeah. I got the memo. And I understand the policy. And the problem is just that I forgot the one time. And I've already taken care of it so it's not even really a problem anymore.
Boss: Ah! Yeah. It's just we're putting new coversheets on all the TPS reports before they go out now. So if you could go ahead and try to remember to do that from now on, that'd be great. All right!

Great news, Niner [:D]

I was made redundant with no warning at all, 7 years ago. On Christmas Eve. After nearly 10 years of excellent service and winning multiple company awards.

However I was in the fortunate position that I had contacts in other companies doing the same thing as the ones who had just binned me. so I was offered a job the same day with a direct rival, for better money.

The surprise came with a telephone call on Boxing Day from the company that had laid me off asking me not to go to the new company because it would 'put them in an untenable position' as I would be working on the same area of research and the former employers hadn't bothered to wait until the research was fnished before they let me go.

Let's just say their request was filed in the appropriate place [:)]
