I want the Rs to change the nominating process.

Why Iowa? Why New Hampshire? Year after dreary year, why do these states have such a stranglehold over the nominating process? Year after dreary year, why does Iowa get to pick losers while killing better candidates?

My unhappiness starts with the fact that our insane food prices are a direct result of politicians having to promise, year after dreary year, to provide ever-increasing subsidies for ethanol, making me pay a heavy price for their "ticket out of Iowa".

This dissatisfaction is multiplied by the possibility of a strong showing by R Paul, who is clearly a less serious candidate than Palin or Trump.

What say you? Rotate it, maybe with different regions represented each election? The South (Georgia, say) in 2016? The mountain West (Colorado, maybe) in 2020?

There's got to be something better than Iowa, Iowa, Iowa.

Its a state law that their caucus will be at least 8 days before any other caucus/primary. The GOP has no direct control over it. It would be interesting if another state passed the same law though...the 2016 caucus in December 2012!

I agree with Truckin. If the 2 parties would take control of the schedule and put them on a rotating basis, things might be a lot more equitable.

Their are merits to smaller states going first, similar to the balance attempted by the electoral system. It provides them a voice that would otherwise be drowned out by New York, California and Texas. The problem comes when they waste that voice if the winner is someone like Ron Paul, who has no shot of actually winning the nomination.

That's odd that you bring up Ron Paul.
As I've mentioned in here a few times now I've noticed more signs for him here in S. Carolina than all the other candidates combined!
And S. Carolina is the next big primary state after New Hampshire.

The GOP is in enough trouble as it is, a midwestern moderate first off is the best thing you could wish for.

Put the current and future crops of teabagging clowns down stumping for votes in say Arizona or some other whacky ass place, and the first impression is only going to get worse than the overall impression these boys of derring do are instilling in us now.

He could beat the other candidates, but he can't beat election fraud, especially if it's bipartisan. It would be as he would be seen as a common enemy.

I don't think so. I think you may be underestimating the stupidity of the voters.

Part of the problem is that early primaries = money.  The early primary states get campaign spending dollars, retinue hotel, etc., dollars, and revenue from the media presence.  And, as truckinslave stated, it ensures support for corn ethanol as well.  NH and Iowa ain't gonna give that up without a fight.

How about having a random number generator assign states' primary weeks, and the sequence changes every four years?

In this one, if they are minimally prehensile, they'll have enough smarts.

Yeah the majoprity of voters should have no say in who the party nominees are. What do you think this is a republic or something?

Changing to some sort of rotating regional primary seems likely to result in more peoples votes actually mattering. The same can be said for the national popular vote for POTUS compact which is building momentum.

This is absurd statement. Who are Palin and Trump? How many years Paul has served (as an elected representative) in the Congress?

Thats a point, but you fail to consider his district.

NancyFran has, arguably, the safest seat in the House, and has for years, but she would probably lose 50 states against anyone but Ron Paul in a national election.
