I remember back in the late 70's/early 80's when I was treasurer for the U Miami scuba club and the prez was my dive buddy and an ex SEAL. I asked him about gays in a unit because that was topical at the time (AIDS wasn't heard of yet)

His reply was and I quote. "Can the fucker shoot straight, send a lot of ordnance downrange and not go all to hell when the shit hits the fan?.....If it's yes to all 3, then I don't give a fuck"

He did multiple tours in 'The Delta" and had the scars to prove it. I'll take his word about gays in the military over any REMF or FOX news watcher.

I don't know. Has anyone else noticed that the increase of permissiveness towards homosexuals directly correlates with the increase of the global average temperature?

Thanks a lot DomKen...I went to your links the first one was nice....two perfectly ordinary and pleasant young members of our Navy obviously quite taken with each other.
Than I went to the second link...and made the mistake of reading the posts.....really could have done without the over the top proof of just how despicable some of my fellow citizens can be.

I felt the same way.  The kiss didn't bother me.  The responses on the second link were sad, to say the least.

Just to confirm that I meant the scum are the people on the freerepublic forums.
Not in any way did I mean Service people. I felt I needed to clarify.

I got the two links together and almost left off the freepers but I thought it might illustrate for some what we still need to over come.
