seababy -> Best podcast recommendations (12/24/2011 3:34:57 AM)

I am looking for recomendations for new podcasts to listen to. Does anyone have any favorite podcasts that they would like to recommend?

I'll put two forward that I love.

Underwood and Flinch now running into its 40th episode. Its won two awards.
Its a vampire podcast and there is nothing sparkly about Lord Underwood. Lots of humor and darkness. You can listen by clicking on the pictures on the webpage or download for free on itunes.

Dan Carlins Hardcore History

Really great history show. His latest stuff is free at his site or itunes. The earlier stuff that is archived is now only available to buy. I loved his Judgment at Nineveh episode.

Yay one other person in the universe!! :)

I will check it out.

I am not sure why but very few people seem either aware/interested in podcasts. There is some great ones out there.

seababy,

If you go here:  NPR.ORG  It is the homepage to
National Public Radio in the USA.  Many of the shows
there have podcasts.  Look under programs.

2 of my favorites are:  Science Friday
and an interview show called   Fresh Air

In Bed with Suzi Bright is excellent. It is available on Audible.

Is she still doing stuff? I've not heard Suzi Sexpert mentioned for a long while. Very clever lady...

Kewl.

She is hilarious, too. She does listener interviews, reads letters from listeners, and discusses some topic of a sexual nature. I had never heard much about her until this Podcast. I bought her latest book because I like "in bed" so much.
She read a letter I wrote to her on the podcast, and offered some very sage advice.

That's good.
She is a very clever lady and (as you say) very funny with it. If you ever see any of the old books knocking about a market stall, they're well worth a read.
She was a really big deal around the turn of the '90s, then she just vanished. I suppose the fashion in feminism shifted to self important humourless idiots like Camille Paglia. It's very nice to hear that she's making a comeback.

we don't have NPR over here, of course, so i podcast many, many of their programs. Snap Judgement is one of my favourites. I love storytellers and he's got some great stories and tellers on his program.

Since you like science here is another group of podcasts.
KITP Podcasts  Kavli Institute for Theoretical Physics Podcasts

You will either have to be very knowledgeable or careful which ones
you choose.  If you are my level you can choose from the Public Lecture
Series or the Friends Series.  If you are closer to their level then you would
probably enjoy some of the more advanced lectures.

Personally I will confess that when a few Nobel prize winners start to gather
round and do serious theoretical physics; then the train has left the station
and I do not have a ticket to ride.  But those lectures are listed too.
