I did the medifast thing, god that was ghastly, being in a room full of people with food issues...there I was, coming off a prednisone binge, and dealing with people who had eating disorders. I was so sick on it! Trashed my gallbladder, too.

tazzygirl -> RE: Crazy Diets (12/30/2011 3:39:16 PM)

My mom's gallbladder too. Yeah, that was a nasty shake..lol

barelynangel -> RE: Crazy Diets (12/30/2011 5:13:15 PM)

I believe you all may be speaking of the HCG diet, my friend did that one this summer, and personally while she lost 25 lbs fast -- yeah part of it is you eat 500 cals a day for so many days, she has now gained it all back.

grins i don't give a shit what the Mayo Clinic says the best way to eat is -- plants -- blech lol give me protein and good fats and good carbs for my main staple with eveynow and again some of the sinful mixed up in same with a VERY LOW moderation concept.

What a lot of people don't realize is for many switching to water or making sure you stay completely hydrated would help them lose weight.

Yeah, you're pretty much guaranteed to lose weight if you only eat 500 calories a day...and you get the bonus of screwing up your metabolism.

I had a friend that tried the Beverly Hills Diet:
quote:

The Beverly Hills Diet is predicated on the enzymatic actions of foods in the digestive process, and controlled weight by controlling when foods were eaten and in what combinations. The plan begins with the consumption of a series of specified fruits in a designated order for the initial ten days of the program.

When she got to this I laughing my ass off:

quote:

Step one is for breakfast to eat 8 oz of prunes
Yes, you will lose weight if you eat 8 ounces of prunes....and about 5 rolls of toilet paper.

littlewonder -> RE: Crazy Diets (12/30/2011 5:44:07 PM)

I've never done any crazy diets I don't think. When I need to lose weight I almost always am sure to lose it by sticking to a diet between 800-1200 calories a day, no red meat, no fried foods, no fatty foods....fresh veggies, fish, chicken, try not to eat too many sugary foods although I lose my willpower and will splurge from time to time. I just make sure to keep it to a minimum. And I don't eat after 7pm.

I have recently started taking celexa for my chronic depression though which has helped me to lose a lot of weight because I simply don't have an appetite anymore...not that I'm complaining lol. This has led me to believe that I gained weight due to stress in my life.

Actually, you're wrong on all counts. I have a hereditary condition which makes me insulin resistant. So, it has very little to do with how much eat, but actually what I eat. So, good for you.....it's simply not that simple.

Sorry your body still isn't magical. Diseases don't let you break the laws of physics. While your disease creates a lot of issues with dieting eating less than you burn will still make you lose weight regardless. At 1500 you should be about maintenance for yourself. If you told me you were eating 1000 (and absolutely certain it was that) and still not losing weight then maybe I'd think physics needs a second look.

This was supposed to be a fun, light thread about the crazy diets we have tried. Can we please get back to that?

Yes, that's it - the HCG diet (I can never remember that name).  Sounds horribly unhealthy to me, and those I know who have been on it, have either gained it back (because they didn't learn how to eat) or went back on it when they began gaining it back.  I certainly don't want to have to rely on hormone drops to maintain my weight.

And I agree with what you said about water.  It's necessary to stay hydrated (not going to get that from sodas, necessarily) and it helps keep you full.

tazzygirl -> RE: Crazy Diets (12/30/2011 10:28:19 PM)

Im terrible about drinking water... yup.. I admit it (no, dont get confused, this is not the "I admit" thread. [8D]

LOL!

Water is so important.  I learned just how important when I recently was very sick and became dangerously dehydrated - yikes.  Sometimes at work I get so busy I forget, so now I keep a big bottle at my desk.

xXLithiumXx -> RE: Crazy Diets (12/30/2011 10:41:11 PM)

I know a girl who did coffee and toast. Thats all she ate and drank.

I personally did divorce. Best thing I have found to lose weight.

LOL!

I actually gained a ton of weight during my divorce, being an emotional eater.  That's something I'll always have to be careful of.

What are the craziest diets you have tried in search of that elusive number on the scale?

I was already thin but I had to be in a wedding. The dress was HIDEOUS dark green slubbed satin and very form fitting. Think scoop necked t-shirt with a flamenco dancer type skirt. I didn't like how it made my ass look ( I had JLo's ass before JLo made it coooooooooool). So I got the bright idea that I needed to be super thin and went on some cabbage soup diet.

I lost weight alright but it really fucked up my system. I've been battling weight gain ever since.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Crazy Diets (12/31/2011 3:02:08 PM)

I don't believe in crazy diets and schemes to loose weight. I believe, even though I do not practice it, that Most of what you need is healthy eating and exercise. Now, for some that don't work cause they have medical problems or are on meds that make weight gain a fact of life, but for the majority that's really all that's needed.

Tazzy's question is what are the craziest diets you've ever tried. She's not asking if you believe they work or not, just if you've tried them. Re-read what you quoted.

Toppingfrmbottom -> RE: Crazy Diets (12/31/2011 4:01:54 PM)

I should of said none first.

It's been called crazy by others, but one of my diet staples is to jack my insulin up right after I work out. Drink orange juice, or eat a Hershey's bar, something like that.

Insulin is the most anabolic hormone out there. I know oly lifters that chug a can of pop after every workout. I prefer natural sugars.

The weirdest I have heard of is a diet of simply peanut butter. It sounds weird but its a pretty simple diet. One serving of peanut butter has about 7 grams of carbs, 7 grams of protein and about 26 or so grams of fat. And the fat is a healthy fat.

That kind of diet is pretty good for somebody who wants to lose fat.
