Explosives found at airport, military man in custody
December 31, 2011 10:38 AM
BY NATHANIEL MILLER
Midland International Airport was evacuated for about an hour Saturday morning after Transportation Security Administration officials found military-grade explosives in a serviceman’s carry-on bag.

Midland Police bomb technician Sgt. Brian Rackow would not elaborate on what type of explosives were found, but only said they were located when a man and his family were going through the security checkpoint before boarding their plane.

The suspect has identified himself to investigating officials as active military and was in the Permian Basin to visit his family, Rackow said. The suspect and his family were on their way back to his base in North Carolina and he has been cooperative with FBI investigators, who were in charge of the case, Rackow said.

I'd sure like to know what sort of explosives we are talking about. A block of c-whatever they are using these days, or some nifty little conversation piece he took along to show off to the family at Christmas.

Even if TSA gives him a pass, he's going to have trouble with the commander, when he gets back.

I dont think he is gonna get a pass.

Probably not, but I'd like to know what he was carrying before I weigh in on if he should be looking at a federal felony, or a nasty trip to the CO's office.

Hell, a couple months ago, and depending on how you want to spin it, I either tried to smuggle a dangerous weapon onto a domestic flight, or completely forgot I had a swiss army knife in my travel bag on my way to a funeral.
