Jaquin -> Sleeping Cuffed (1/2/2012 11:48:36 AM)

I've tired to sleep with my hands cuffed behind me some nights with no success, and I was wondering if anyone has any tricks or tips that can help ease the discomfort or strain that it causes?  I sleep on my side generally, and have issues breathing if I sleep on my stomach - so it's rather a quandary.

Any advice?

littlewonder -> RE: Sleeping Cuffed (1/2/2012 11:55:07 AM)

sleep with your hands cuffed to the bed instead if he/she allows it? I have slept with my hands cuffed behind me with few problems except for maybe my shoulders hurting in the morning but otherwise that's it. I almost always sleep on my side anyway. I can't really give you any other advice.

Not so much advice as an observation....

Interesting choice of wordage in your OP. It sounds like it was just you in the bed when you tried to sleep cuffed? If so, then yeah, I can see that being uncomfortable. Plus there's the dynamics problem of you (the bound sub) having the choice to remove the cuffs. Meaning you get to choose not to be uncomfortable, so there's no "sucking it up" and enduring because it's what your Dom wants etc.

When I've decided to bind my sub's hands behind for sleeping (maybe one night in 3 or 4), it involves a bit of technique for both of us. I sleep on my back and she tucks in tight next to me with her head resting on my chest/shoulder and with my arm around her. She's not so much on her side or stomach but at an angle in between with her body weight partially resting on mine and no weight on her bound hands. I usually have her hook her top leg over mine, too, to "lock" her to me. This way her head is right next to mine and I'm readily alerted if she's having any breathing problems or making sounds of distress/discomfort etc.

Probably the most amazing outcome is that we both generally sleep very well this way, and I've done this with several subs over the years. Yep, it's normal that her arms and shoulders are a bit sore next morning but she's rarely sleep deprived or tired. And the dynamic thing is very important - that it's what I want and it's up to her to make the most of it.

Oh, and "amazing" for me that I can sleep the whole night on my back without needing to change positions. The dynamics price of me being in charge and responsible for both of us getting a good night's sleep.

I too have been much more comfortable sleeping while cuffed to the bed. Behind my back does not work for me as the circulation gets cut off to my arm after about an hour.

Jaquin -> RE: Sleeping Cuffed (1/2/2012 7:23:36 PM)

Focus: That sounds great... if only I had a Dom to sleep with.

As is, ya, I'm alone in the bed and have slept - of my own accord - in various states of bondage save for with wrists behind so was curious as to how to make it comfortable enough to sleep in.

DesFIP -> RE: Sleeping Cuffed (1/2/2012 8:25:17 PM)

Hell, I am a stomach sleeper and I couldn't do that. One hand cuffed to the bedpost with enough chain to move around is the most I could do. But I don't handle sleep deprivation at all well.

RaspberryLemon -> RE: Sleeping Cuffed (1/2/2012 9:11:21 PM)

I have never tried this, but I'm fairly certain my arms would fall asleep if he were to have me sleep with my wrists cuffed together behind my back. I have relatively low blood pressure and so it's very easy for my limbs to fall asleep in even the most normal sleeping positions. That being said, as someone else has suggested perhaps you could have one wrist/ankle cuffed and connected to the bed via a length of chain. Thus you accomplish being 'restrained' but with enough room to prevent discomfort, pain, or limbs falling asleep. We've not bought nice leather cuffs yet, but this is one thing my Master has contemplated doing once we do.

Jaquin -> RE: Sleeping Cuffed (1/2/2012 9:30:12 PM)

Well I do have nice leather cuffs, and metal cuffs.

From the sounds of it though I basically need to sleep with someone to make it work ><

I can understand excitement/fantasy/curiosity that sleeping with hands bound behind gives you. :) I think it's hot having my girl sleep bound, too, esp those moments of discomfort when I have to get out of bed for some minor emergency and just leave her there to make the best of it until I return. It's all good....

But ultimately, and esp when it's the sub making the choices, you or anyone is gonna default to practical over fantasy and choose to just get a good, comfortable night's sleep. Trust me, you'll find it a whole bunch better and easier when you don't get to make that choice.

As I alluded to in my first post, while she has some understandable physical stiffness next morning, it's been my experience that she wakes mentally refreshed as only a good night's sleep can do. And I think that's where the D/s dynamics of it is important, esp those first few times where I'd say she was beyond refreshed to purring like a submissive kitten all next day.

D/s always works better when the sub doesn't get to choose.... But hey, don't take my word for it - I'm sleeping all alone these days. (hint, hint) ;)

Sleeping involves a different kind of bondage to me.

Under normal bondage circumstances, the first of my 3 rules of bondage is NO chance of escape. I tie her up like I mean it and the only way she gets free is when I choose to free her. I mean, that IS the point of binding someone....

But the main point of sleeping bound is to still get a good night's sleep. So for me with her wrists bound behind, it's soft leather cuffs only and the first few times they're only secured with a simple dog clip as I don't wanna be fumbling for keys etc in the middle of the night should an emergency arise.

And since it's for many hours of sleeping where I can't monitor her as normal, I usually secure the cuffs about one notch less than usual. That combined with a mere dog clip means a determined sub could free herself if she tried. And since I don't appreciate my sub making that choice, she's fore-warned that if she does, the punishment is that she doesn't get re-tied and she can sleep however she likes, in another bed.

I'll just qualify that and say that sleeping is a special circumstance; that any other time she's bound, she can try all she wants to get free. If I've done my usual job, she's not going anywhere.

The idea of a submissive sleeping (alone) while hand-cuffed makes me concerned!

What if there was a fire in the night?
What if a water pipe would burst (and NO, not THAT kind! Ahem!)?
What if there was a terrible storm?

My goodness! I would worry for the sub's being able to get out of the cuffs quickly enough to get to a place of safety!
Please don't place yourself in harm's way by doing these things alone. It would be better to wait until you had a partner present, wouldn't it?

Jaquin -> RE: Sleeping Cuffed (1/3/2012 10:43:00 PM)

I've gotten quite good at getting out quick, but I understand your concern - the keys are always on my night stand in easy reach.

When young kids (my nieces) can randomly come over while I'm still sleeping you get pretty good at quick escapes.

As for waiting till I get a partner... I've been waiting a long time and I can't just do nothing.

Hmmm, says you're replying to me.... In which case, those "minor emergencies" I refer to might be to get a drink of water or answer the call of nature etc - things that amount to a few minutes, tops.

Otherwise, no, I'm not an advocate of leaving anyone bound and out of my sight for any extended period, not even if the particular sub thinks the idea hot.

The idea of sleeping restrained is hot. To say the least.

MSubEdinburgh29 -> RE: Sleeping Cuffed (1/5/2012 11:29:39 AM)

My ex-girlfriend did this to me once, but it was so unbelievably uncomfortable, and I was released in the middle of the night - not because I asked to be but because she could tell I wasn't sleeping well, and possibly disturbing her sleep as a consequence.

Despite that, the thought of it still excites me [:D]

Sure... you need:

1.  Slim Leather/Flexible Belt (with a slim/small buckle)

2.  Cuffs (with D/O rings)

Now...

1)  Slip on your cuffs.

2) Lay flat on your back in bed.

3)  Slip the belt underneath yourself... without buckling it.

4)  Thread the ends of the belt through the D/O rings of the cuffs... and buckle the belt.

5)  Go to sleep.

Jaquin -> RE: Sleeping Cuffed (1/6/2012 7:16:52 PM)

Can do better then belt, I got a chain measured for my waist just for the purpose of securing cuffs behind me - only used it while awake though.

Add a rope or a chain to the mix.  Then either sleep with your hands in front of you, but tied to your cuffed feet by means of the rope, or sleep with your hands behind you, but with the length of the rope/chain between them.  Sleeping in, e.g., police handcuffs behind your back is not something I could recommend.

Several women have told me they slept comfortably with hands and feet bound, where their hands were in front.  You could also bind your hands in front, and connect them to a collar, a la the Story of O.

If said "chain" is comfortable (given your OP referenced "discomfort"), then have at it. [8D]

Jaquin -> RE: Sleeping Cuffed (1/7/2012 12:14:35 AM)

The chain is fine ya, it's actually a bit to large for my waist (since the store could only cut in equal feet, not the fractions that would have made it just enough to reach around - honestly I think that was more the attendants thing rather then a store thing.. what's wrong with fractions?) so it slips around (and would go all around if not for my arms of course) but is still snug enough to not go down over my hips or up over my ribs.

The discomfort is that I sleep on my side which puts a fair amount of pressure on my arm, when stuck behind me that means it tends to ache real easy since generally my arms are out in front of me and only my shoulder is really lain on.  And even then it's at an angle as there is some lean to the back - but again if my hands are behind me that means that much more pressure on my arm(s) which just doesn't work.
