Right you are, my good man. How 'bout you and I lead the pack?

Well Hawky boy, I will give your request serious consideration, but only because you said such nice things about my post. You sure do know how to grease a girls palm. If you can keep that up, it might even net you a promotion and a raise, double entendre intended!

Hardycybermaster is just here to annoy cliques and question cliches. Feel free to ignore him.

Don't think so? Perv his profile. That is exactly what it says.

And as for trying to win him over with reason or charm, forget about it. He is not arguing with you. He is fucking with you.

How did I know that was coming? Hahaha!

Boys will be boys, and so will a lot of middle/older aged men.

If I can keep it up? Apparently, you have no idea who you're talkin' to! I might just wear you out, Hawky Boy! Anyhow, I'm afraid it will be more incumbent upon you, than me, to "keep it up!"

this time I am not fucking with anyone, I am anti gun, and I usually pipe up when there is a "shoot the fuckers!" thread.
As usual its the yanks who are pro gun and the brits who are anti gun. Guess it's just about how and where you were brought up. I am personally very happy to live in a country with hardly any guns and hence much fewer dead people regardless of whether they are good or bad eggs

Do you people on the other side of the Atlantic really need the Second Amendment here in the 21st century?

Maybe you do. Okay. Just don't expect me to take you seriously when you start talking about having freedom.

another is to have a well placed and good secure safe room... (preferably with hidden cameras that can be viewed inside the room & a way to contact 911 from inside)..

I do... it's called my bedroom... most of us have one.

Note, however, that where I live, it's illegal to have rooms without windows.

The window puts a bit of a dent in the whole notion of safety for me, and this is my home, dammit. My wallet isn't worth my life. Not being walked all over like a doormat by someone I don't even respect and not having my private space violated, that's a different matter.

Still, you raise a good point. A room is easier to secure than a whole house.

3M sells armor films for windows, incidentally.

Health,
al-Aswad.

Illegal to not have windows? Not even an interior room?

(going off to google armor film.....)

Cannot one slide a metal shutter in front or back of the window in case of an emergency?

are walk-in closets without windows legal where you are? you could also turn a walk-in closet into a safe room..

off course the regs/laws regarding building codes vary, it may be illegal in some countries or areas but if you are in hurricane alley in the US, I believe hurricane shelter is very similar or can be the same as a safe room.. some countries have bomb shelters in newer condo buildings.. so it depends on where you are and what you see as required..

That's the thing, Hard. Here in the states, you can be nearly certain that the bad guys have serious ordnance. MOST citizens have never even seen a gun in real life outside its holster, and that's not an exaggeration. Television gives this skewed idea that every American is packing heat, but they really don't hand out guns with the voter registration cards.

Aswad had some great ideas about protecting your home, but EVERY ONE assumed that the invader didn't have a gun. You've heard that phrase, "bringing a knife to a gunfight"? Really, if I was awakened to the sound of a bullet hitting the chamber I can assure you that I would not be prepared to grab my knife or bludgeon (and yes, I do have those to ready access in my room).

Most of us, when bad people approach us with guns, give up our stuff, and are very glad if we are not killed or injured. (and here I do not speak from experience, but family members have had this happen, and a neighbor has lifelong PTSD from it). Every day there are stories of people being murdered somewhere, of homes broken into, of kidnapping, of innocent people being harmed, and the bad guys getting away. When the story comes of someone managing to defend themselves against the forces of evil, well...yes, we are happy, and it's not just schadenfreude.

The person sitting in the Oval Office just signed a bill that if used to its full extent will allow for ANY CITIZEN to be detained for no reason, for an unlimited amount of time.

Freedom? Not really. Our Bill of Rights, antiquated as it is, has been so eroded in the last ten years that even I who have no stake in gun ownership would fight for the right to carry a rocket launcher down Broadway.

I am not a Yank, I am Canadian (living in the US). Canada has gun control but that doesnt stop the bad guys from smuggling guns into Canada (from the US).. So far for me, living in the US has been incident free.. but if i was in the position of this young woman, where i was stalked, getting a gun (& learning how to use it properly) would be something i would consider... Of course, ones ability to buy a gun depends on the gun laws of each state..

I do agree its about how and where you were brought up tho and both Canada and the UK have lower murder rates as a result.. it might be statistically less likely but it can still happen tho..

I wonder of the stats on murder, what percent of victims knew their attackers...

LadyHibiscus -> RE: Blanchard woman shoots and kills intruder (1/4/2012 10:33:47 AM)

There have been only a few murders in my immediate area (like, my neighbourhood) in the last 26 years. One, an axe was involved on sleeping persons. The other, deranged kid stabbed his mom 111 times. Srsly. 111 times.

If you want to do harm I reckon you'll find a way.

yes, most definately.. there are some pretty strange ways to kill people too..

jmo.. but i think that most murders are commited by people that know each other.. there is a reason why the cops look first at the boyfriend(s)/hubby when a woman is murdered (& vice versa too, of course).. Maybe a big part of being safe is having a good gut instinct on people and getting a good feel of who to avoid friending/getting involved with..

I only wish that were true. I know that only my lack of fear for myself, and that inner *knowledge* that I will stand against anything that kept me alive in a dicey situation.

None of which speaks to the poor lady who was harassed by thugs, of course.

I have been in a couple of dicey situations too (not life threatening, i dont think but majorly serious to me)

but according to the article.. it said she met one of the guys before (doesnt say how but she probably saw him in the area due to him stalking her) and that she got a bad feeling about him.. so she at least knew not to be friendly and open the door to him.. she did rely on her gut feeling (as much as one can),.. but since he was determined she had her shotgun as back-up..

I remember that as well. The poster was vilified for taking the life of another human and all but called a liar. As I recall, there were several different members who went after him. It was a similar post about a home invader with a weapon, but drew a very different set of comments.

I've read through page 5 and see no vilification. Even the pro-gun control poster said he had no problem with the OP's actions.

ETA - oh, Sanity's post, well, consider the source, pffft. Still overwhelming support.

DaddySatyr -> RE: Blanchard woman shoots and kills intruder (1/4/2012 1:06:30 PM)

I think we need more gun control. Then, when people can't get guns, anymore, we'll need knife control. Next up will be hammer control, rock control, and car control.

People have been killing each other since the first time two hungry cro-magnons stared at the same water buffalo and then, at each other. We'll find a way to kill each other, if we want to.

I don't own a firearm and, obviously, don't carry one but, I do thank God for the ones who do because it's all that keeps the dirtbags "humble", when they are deciding whose house they're going to break into.

Peace and comfort,

Michael
