FR Carter said "I will never lie to you." Oh, wait he kept that promise and was duly rewarded for his honesty with sinking polls and loss of presidency. Savvier and more instinctive politicians know people have little stomach for a steady diet of the unvarnished of truth. Small doses sweetened with sugar or bad news broken gently and spinned can be tolerated but the truth the whole truth and nothing but is something humans avoid like the plague or jury duty.

What President Carter actually said was: “I will never tell a lie. I will never make a misleading statement. I will never betray the confidence any of you has in me.” Does David Marston ring any bells? How about the claim that he opened all of his mail himself (while he was campaigning for President)? That one almost doesn't count because it's impossible so, I don't think anyone was actually mis-lead (except for, maybe, some younguns that might have still had some faith in our elected officials after the Watergate fiasco) Peace and comfort, Michael

if you read the OP, it was a case of what PARTICULAR lie did WHAT PARTICULAR PRESIDENT tell yanno specifics..name, lie, when...etc, I thought the OP was pretty explicit in its requirements. Are you reading from that law book again?
