The Managing Director of a company I work for made the mistake of giving me a Lee Child book to read. I have now become hooked and am working my way through all his work.

I am someone that needs to have at least 2 books ready. One that I am reading and the next one to read.  Master asked if I wanted a Kindle for Christmas and I thought about it for quite a while. On the upside is the fact that a Kindle can slip into your purse which is a bit more difficult with a book, but I would miss the physical pleasure of holding a book. All my books look as though they have never been read.

Next on the list is a book on Quantam Physics and one on the Electronic Automotive Systems and of course another Lee Child book.

If you want to read a vampire book that gives a different twist on it, there's an excellent one called Pretty Young Things by Dominic McDonagh. It's brilliant. Very well written and very funny indeed, and the vampires definitely do not sparkle! Happy reading.

<----- has been a fan of vampires since I read "Salem's Lot" and "Interview with the Vampire" in the 70s.

For gritty vampire tales, read the beginning of Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series.

For vampire tales with gratuitous sex, read the rest of Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series.

For vampire romance, The Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

Charlaine Harris's Southern Vampire series (True Blood is based on this) is a page turning fun read.

Should Lee Child be read in any particular order?

Wiki seems to indicate that they are all standalone: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lee_Child#Novels_and_awards

My roommates LOVE The Black Dagger Brotherhood series. XD Thus why I couldn't get into it. But I've heard good things.

I will say another interesting but very short vampire series is Amelia Atwater-Rhodes books. They kind of link together but kind of flit in the whole "romantic sex" vampire world.

But don't you run out of room and have to sell them again? I've got bookshelves and stuff but they're always stuffed to over-flowing.

Mmm, I don't ever sell my books. What I end up doing is trading them with people for other books...or keeping them in boxes until I have big enough space.

My goal in life is to have a library in my house and have each wall covered by bookshelves :3

I just finished re-reading them all, except the last two, which I have on my Amazon "wish list" for Treasure to find and buy for me.

I'm generally a big proponent of reading any series in chronological order, regardless of how they were written, or even if they are supposedly "stand alone", but I'd really recommend you read the Reacher series in the order that they were written, which isn't really completely chronological.

I have read them out of order. They are all pretty much stand alone books.

Once I quit reading fiction, things sort of took off. The best I have read lately is "The nature of technology. What it is and how it evolves" By Brian Arthur. 2009. 256 pages.

Review : http://www.issues.org/26.3/br_gordon.html

I also recommend, "The Prince" By Niccolo Machiavelli.

http://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/1232

And I just KNOW you are going to HATE the Project Gutenburg.

http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

Enjoy!

I read voraciously when I was younger, like a book a day sometimes, but it turns out kids want something every 15 minutes without fail, and it's hard to read like that, so I've barely read anything at all in the last 15 years.

I still love books though, I'm on a forced book diet in fact, I don't even look at them, other than graphic novels, and the occasional How-To, my bed is typically covered with books and I'm flat out of shelf space.

I dropped a C-note in Hastings the other day on a Savage Sword anthology (big fan of ink), the 50 Dollar Knife Shop (several chapters on home forging), and a couple of jewellery making mags to see what the current state of the art is - oh, and a book on fonts/type, I gotta stay out of there.

Since you live in Nawlins, I'd recommend the Dave Robichaux books by James Lee Burke. They're a different kind of book in the hard-boiled PI genre - shambling plots, haunting evocations and descriptions, fatally flawed people, and vicious violence.  They take place in Louisiana.  They're sort of a successor to the Travis McGee series.
