It's been suggested that the mould that grows on the pages of really old books might even have mind altering (or at least subtly mood enhancing) properties. You won't get that from a Kindle, will you? [;)]

Works for me. I love books. Libraries have always been heaven for me. One of the first places I check out in a new town.

(Smiles) 50? I look at the piles of books I still have to read, and I sometimes wonder if I'll ever get through them all in my lifetime... [8D]

Books, books, books, one of my favorite things in life. I speed read, bout 100-120 pages and hour and I'm kinda ADD, so I tend to work through a bunch of books at a time. Nothing like kicking back with a good book to relax. And yeah, call me a dinosaur, but I am not gonna get a Kindle. I like the whole old fashioned reading experience. There's something cozy and homey about curling up on the couch with a book that I just don't get from a kindle. I'm lucky in that the town I live in has a free book depository that has 1000's of books sitting there for the taking, so it's pretty rare that I go into a library and much much rarer that I actually buy a book-instead I wander in, see what randomness the tide has rolled in recently, pick out what I like or what seems intriguing, and I'm set for the week. I blast through the books, keep what I like, kick back the rest to the depository. Because it's random grabbing, I tend to end up with a plethora of books covering a wide range, which helps keep me from getting bored. It's a very cool system. Let's see-current reading: Merrick-Anne Rice Kings of Cocaine-Gugliotta/Leen ( A history of the Medellin Cartel) John Adams-McCullough Mr Capone-Schoenberg (Al Capone bio) The Last Lion 2-Manchester (Churchill bio) Last Argument of Kings-Abercrombie Homicide-David Simon Libra-Delillo Good times. In fact, it's Sunday morning. Time to swing by, grab some tomes, swing by the bakery for donuts and relax till the game starts.

Yesterday someone gave me a book that was printed in 1893. Worm holes and all. A delightful history of Iowa City. I am totally loving it.

Ohhh post pix!!!! I love old old books. A friend of mine is a collector, and some of them, it's amazing they've lasted. Kana~ The Al Capone book, nice. I have a crapload of mob history books..love 'em.

Woman on the edge of time 1984 Handmaids Tale The Shining My most recommended book - Derren Brown- Trick of the Mind Also I have a kindle, I love my books and nothing will replace them, if I am going to pay for a book it will be as a book, however all the free books through amazon makes the initial outlay completely worth it, I adore classics and find they are the ones I like to read over/quote etc so its convenient to have them all in my handbag.

They're not as good as a real paper book, but I can listen while it's not practical or safe to handle paper.

But every available wall of the house has long-since been paneled with bookshelves. Books on the floor in boxes, books in bins under the bed. I've weeded relentlessly, but none of my friends will take any any more. The library doesn't want them. I've even tried giving them to hospitals and nursing homes, but they only want brand-new books. Must be nice to be so picky. I want a book reader, but I don't want a freakin' Kindle, or Nook, or any of the others I've looked at so far. I just want something with a moderately sized screen that's visible in direct sunlight and backlit for darkness, adjustable and selectable font sizes, able to read HTML, PDF, and plaintext, with a USB port so I can upload the content I already have on my desktop PC. Some slots for storage upgrades would be nice. I don't need internet connectivity (and there isn't any, most places I would be using it), I don't need a web browser, music or movie playback, built-in games, or being locked in to some proprietary platform. It doesn't need to be a tablet PC, just a viewer. Unfortunately, my requirements are evidently still too extreme for the marketplace... I've been waiting a long time. Hopefully, I won't have to wait too much longer.

Must be nice to be so picky. In regards to any extra books you want to shift; Have you tried places like bookmooch? They're great for getting rid of unwanted books. Also, have you tried places like charity shops/thrift stores? The ones here are always glad of donations, and they don't have to be new, they just have to be intact. They will even accept books on bookmooch that are not in great condition, as long as you mention it in the condition notes. Hope that helps, anyway. [:)]
