Will the incident at Haditha change people's view of the war or is it just a case of a rogue element that every army has and just something of an embarrassment?

Status: offline 		Look into other sources of news and you will find Hidartha is not an isolated case in Iraq.
It will be spun like crazy. It will be almost impossible to get a clean concise report of it. So everyone will be able to make what they want out of it.
Iraq is a mess. Lots of soldiers are trying to yell about what goes on there. Some are admitting they have done horrible things themselves.
Hidartha is only a concentrated episode of what goes on all over Iraq every day.
It happens in all wars. But some are worse than others. Iraq is pretty bad in every respect of the evils of war.
Of course the " bad guys " in most wars do the worst things, but this war has too much bad on both sides.

I believe this is a relatively isolated incident. Things like this simply don't happen that often, though they inevitably occur due to the realities of human downfalls.

I believe we should be more concerned about ourn handling of prisoners, which has been shown to be consistantly problematic under the current leadership. This is certainly a terrible atrocity, but I'm simply more concerned about systematic problems than with a freak occurance.

Status: offline 		The massacre which appears to have occured at Haditha was announced a few weeks ago by Murtha and most people blew it off as a congressman blowing some agenda horn. Now it's becoming evident what happened in Haditha last November.

Rogue element? It could be stated that the majority of the Oakley sunglasses and ipod wearing military is a rogue element when they have their finger on the trigger. I made reference to a video in another thread, the video shows infrared imagery of an Apache helicopter blowing up three farmers with exploding bullets... video killing was a term used by another poster in that thread.

Tonights news said some of the Marines at Haditha will face murder charges. Had Murtha not stood up Haditha probably would have dissolved in the military investigations... one of which now is of the Haditha cover up.

Add em up... Abu Garib, Haditha, and countless others, not to mention aircraft attacks on mud houses and farmers with fancy bombs and exploding bullets... our troops are turning the average Iraqi citizen against us and driving them to embrace the contorted teachings of Islam by fanatics and extremists... almost like our own troops are working for the bad guys (surely our troops are not actually the bad guys)... Our troops kill our own troops, biggest example so far is Pat Tillman, but not an isolated incident. How long did it take for the military to cough it up about killing Tillman?

Nothing can hurt us, we have plenty of bullets and bodies to kick anybody's ass... right or wrong... man woman or child!

Self policing agencies seldom find fault within the agency, another problem to deal with on golf day... decided on the green.

In the meantime... Iraqi's are growing increasingly weary of their peacekeeping liberators killing them and their families.

This will probably sound insensitive, but that's what I refer to as the ''Dogs of War.''

Of course the media will engage in their classic forms of demagoguery, but hopefully their influence on people is fading.

Status: offline 		Yep, I agree. This sort of incident immediately changes any perception of a liberation army to one of an occupation army. It is also a terrorist recruitment call and is likely in the long run to get more of the Marines' comrades killed unnecessarily. perception of the host population is everything if the war has any chance of being successful.

Status: offline 		I stayed away from this post as I thought Haditha was some new religion. lol.

My grandmother told me that bush will go down as a genious in history. [I repect my elders- and am puzzled by her statement]

If the US invaded Chicago or New York- the locals would put up a fight.

US leadership is quite removed from its citizenry. EU gets different news.

Add to that mix the huge increase of energy or both China and India. It is not sustainable.
The conspumtion model of society can not go on forever.

US troop will forever be at at least the pipeline- that oils runs thru.

People is the US have scandal fatigue. It has been so much- we sorta dont care anymore.

So no. I doubt the story will go anywhere. Im sure Psy-ops have figured that all out in advance.

Wars have this- all of them. It isn't prety.

Status: offline 		Isolated incident.  Of course it's now fucked beyond all possible understanding, as the military is going to go into damage control mode, and the anti-war groups are going to try to turn it into yet another banner to wave around until it wears out it's welcome. 

For the record though, the day I trust indymedia is the day I trust littlegreenfootballs.

I once told the cable office here they should carry freespeach tv. the woman laughed- and said it would be a disaster. somehow- i think it could be fit in between the shopping channel and the tennis chanel. arghh

Let people know about these other sources of media. When they see they will know...
"altnative media"  barely exists.... well in the mainstream.
