As a newbie in this lifestyle, i've been recently introduced to the term Local Munches. However, the person who introduced it to me couldn't tell me where to find them. I'm from the Bay Area and I'm just wondering how people normally find these mythical groups.

*Thread highjack* I was going to start a thread, but since this one is here I will just borrow it a little. Hope you don't mind YAC

This Saturday we are attending our first munch which is being held at a dungeon in Atlanta called 1763. I was wondering if anyone was familar with this place and could give me an opionion on how it's run. I'm really nervous about going and meeting a bunch of strangers, but excited too.

Enjoy the munch! The munches that i have attened are usually just really nice meals in restaurants where kinky-minded folks who are dressed in street clothes gather to meet in a pretty mundane way. They are usually kept pretty tame and 'vanilla' as for many there, it is the first time attending anything connected to the bdsm Lifestyle.

Probably the easiest way to find a local munch is to Google "BDSM munch <your area, either state or city>". Works like a charm.

Munches are definitely not mythical. You are probably in one of the best areas for munches, the San Francisco Munch being the largest. I know from personal experience that there are four in the north bay alone.

The problem I've encountered with internet searches for local munches, is that the pages are overwhelmingly outdated.
Pick any city on the map that's not a metropolitan, and you'll find a list of 5 - 10 "local" munches. But once you start going to the individual websites, you get a ton of 404 errors, site under construction, sorry we've dissolved this group, or entries that just abrubtly stop in 2001.
On first glance, it appears as though there's tons of munches, but once someone digs in to actually make contact, they're left with a bunch of dead end roads and back to square one.

If anyone has a suggestion on how to improve this, I'd love to hear them.

Another option would be looking around your general area and seeing if there are any events listed as a 'fetish night'. Very easy to make connections there, although most of what you will find will just be people playing dressing up.
