Politesub53 -> The actions of a few disgrace all allied troops. (1/11/2012 5:25:10 PM)

I simply cant believe crap like this keeps on happening. Each and every incident is like a recruiting ad for the Taliban and endangers all the decent and brave troops (the majority) serving in Afghanistan.

And I can't believe the press keeps trying to make a big deal out of things like this!
They pissed on dead savages. So what?
Gee, at least they didn't burn them and hang them from bridges!
Are we supposed to feel sorry for the savages?

There is such a concept as respecting the dead...even in war this should be followed.

I'm probably going to piss of a lot of people off with this. I'm with Popeye, and think this "respecting the dead," business is an emotional overreaction. Once the body is dropped, there is nothing of importance, personality, spirit or soul left to it, and it is a mere bag of meat and bones, and cannot be desecrated. That which was of value is long since gone. Honor and respect the memory, and the living. Stop worshipping dead meat.

I see these actions in the light of battle; being that of a symbolic, territorial conquering, not unlike the planting of a flag, which is what we want our warriors to do. I have no problem with it.

Once upon a time, I might have been horrified by such a thing. Thank Gawd for menopause, as it relieved me of much excess estrogen which previously made me over sensitive to many things. Now, I perceive and process in a more rational, balanced manner.

And I think ALL is fair in love and war. Wars are not about winning popularity contests. They're about complete and utter destruction.

I find it to be childish, and rude. Had the tables been turned, and it were Taliban pissing on American troops, people would be screaming to bomb the fuck outta the joint and turn it into a parking lot. War or not, theres no need to do anything like that.

Yeah, the Afghanis are KNOWN for their "civilized" behavior. Especially the Taliban. [8|]

When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier.
Go, go, go like a soldier,
Go, go, go like a soldier,
Go, go, go like a soldier,
So-oldier ~of~ the Queen!

Excerpt from Kipling's THE YOUNG BRITISH SOLDIER

Perhaps you have heard of that author.

You are right. Lighting them on fire, dragging them through the streets, and hanging them from a bridge is SO much more respectful!

Yeah. They should be brought up on charges of treason.

I would take executions off the table for the enlisted, but their officers have no excuse.

The USA isn't even pulling its own weight in Afghanistan as it is, so why are they letting fuckwits like this bungle shit for the nations that are doing their damned best to fight a war on the US's behalf (despite generally having warned them that it would go the way it went) under no other obligation than treaties and alliances?

They're not pissing on the Taliban there. They're pissing on us, the coalition.

As a sidebar, this is also a recognized war crime.

Health,
al-Aswad.

It is amusing to me when folks feel that our inhumane behavior is somehow mitigated by some perceived lack of civilized behavior or even actual atrocities commited by our enemies......what utter bullshit.
Some of these posters will spend days arguing about some point or other wherein they trumpet "personal responsibility".So what happens, we get into a conflict and we are no longer "responsible" for our behavior?
We are now free to act in any craven way we choose ? As long as we can point to atrocities commited by the other side?
What is wrong with you people.....do you not hold yourselves and your fellow countryman to any standard that is immovable?
Do we not have any standard of conduct that we both expect and demand of ourselves and our fellow citizens...irregardless of the actions of others?
This sort of thinking makes me sick....and engenders nothing but pity for those that espouse it.

While I can understand and honor your feelings, they are not mine. Trust me, were the roles reversed, you would not hear me complaining or screaming. It is a tactic of war, and therefore allowed in my book.

Miserlou -> RE: The actions of a few disgrace all allied troops. (1/11/2012 9:30:22 PM)

and that, folks, is why we are not the good guys either.

Hillwilliam -> RE: The actions of a few disgrace all allied troops. (1/11/2012 9:39:40 PM)

We are the wealthiest, most militarily powerful nation that has ever existed on this planet. Should we not hold ourselves to a higher standard so that others may follow or should we lead the charge back to barbarism?

My friend, everything about war is barbaric.

Given your outrage, why would you want us to be no different?

Absolutely we should hold ourselves to a higher standard...

We should dress them up in blonde wigs, lipstick, nail polish, and pink girly panties. [:D]

This is exactly where the concept of reprisal comes to play. You hurt the other guy until he plays YOUR way.

In peace, at a party or picnic, yes. In war, no, the goal is to demoralize and destroy.
