Its not strawmanning, its sarcasm, I shouldnt have to point something so obvious out to you

And everyone knows that its much cheaper for Iran to build a sophisticated nuclear program than to build a few oil refineries, even including the international sanctions etc

quote:

ORIGINAL: Hillwilliam

Ironically, in spite of the fact that they are sitting on a huge oil deposit, they lack the ability to refine enough to meet their own needs.

Citation supplied [:D] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Iranian_Oil_Refining_and_Distribution_Company

A quote: In 2008 Iran has imported nearly 40% of its market needs because of lack of refining capacity and contraband.[10] In 2009, Iran spent paid $11 billion on imported fuel.[11] In 2010, gasoline import declined to 30% of its market needs at 25 million liters of gasoline and 11 million liters of diesel fuel per day.[12][13]

As of July 2010, Iran produces between 280,000 barrels (45,000 m3) and 285,000 barrels (45,300 m3) of gasoline a day and until recently had acquired the remaining 30 percent, which is about 115,000 barrels per day (18,300 m3/d) to 120,000 barrels per day (19,000 m3/d), through big oil companies.[14]

Major gasoline suppliers to Iran historically have been India, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan, the Netherlands, France, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates.[15][1

Nice attempt at strawmanning. I didn't say that. I said they don't have (at this time) the means (probably thru poor planning) to meet their own energy needs after you had claimed otherwise. Then, I backed it up with citations which is something you tend not to do.

Give us those credible citations of Iranians dying in Jihad, over say the last  30 years or so.

Just because you posted absolute bullshit, presented it as facts and got called on it doesn't mean you have to get all huffy.

Iran plans to use conventional weapons to carry out their declared INTENT to wipe Israel off the map, then?

Given that they'd be a lot less likely to cover their own country with fallout by doing that, yes, they probably would.

They also don't think that a slow death from radiation poisoning will get them the perks that blowing up a few infidels with a suicide bomb would.

Have faith, as Allah will surely protect them from harm

That was the first translation, and it was wrong.  What he said was "Israel should cease to exist."

ETA:  here is some of the debate.  Looks like folks can take it both ways.  What I didn't realize is that Ahmadinejad was quoting Khomeini:

quote:

So there you have it. Depending on who you ask, Ahmadinejad was either endorsing Khomeini's battle cry for Israel to be wiped off the map or invoking Khomeini's wish that, someday, somehow, the Israeli government will collapse under its own weight. The varying translations, of course, may be inextricably linked to people's political views on Iran and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. And some argue that the distinction is academic at this point. In a study for the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, Joshua Teitelbaum states that Ahmadinejad's public statements, taken as a whole, indicate that the Iranian leader is bent on the "actual physical destruction of the State of Israel," however one may translate his 2005 speech. Other Iranian leaders, he adds, have made even more militant comments.

Right.
Presumably you believe that a viking who died of gangrene six months after being stabbed in the arse running away from a fight would be taken to Valhalla by blondes in chainmail bikinis, then?

Is that the Iranian version of: "In God we trust" ?
