Reading the NHL wants the Detroit Red Wings to host next years outdoor "Winter Classic" on New Years Day ....

They want it held in the University of Michigan Stadium ... 110,000 seats ... and played against the Toronto Maple Leafs ....

Seems the NHL wants the all time record for outdoor hockey attendance.

Wait a minute ... says the Detroit Red Wings Owner ... I own another Team ... Detroit Tigers ...

As well as the ball park! I want it played in my 45,000 seat stadium!

ROFL ... I find this tooo funny ... not to post!

"According to Sports Business Daily this week, "An NHL exec said that the league will make an announcement on next year's [Winter Classic] 'by the Jan. 29 NHL All-Star Game and that next year's event will 'break records.'"

The two teams being discussed most for the league's annual outdoor are the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs. One Michigan source said obstacles remaining include what the university's financial take would be, as well as the issue of obtaining a waiver to sell beer at the event"

Really, I am not making this up!

Really though ... if records are to be set .. it is the PERFECT Matchup ....

Excluding Montreal from this discussion ...

You are talking the two Franchise's with the most History and Stanley Cups and, well just about every other record.

Saw how Montreal Fans flooded the 20,000 seat arena in Detroit last year ...

can you imagine, how many people from Toronto will come?

Two of the greatest franchises of all time ... ancient - arch rivals - within 200 miles of each other .... they might be able to sell more than 110,000 seats!
