Someone mentioned on another thread that we are always snarling about our political opponents and how about talking instead about what accomplishments we support. So in that spirit:

Applauding the President's Appointment of Richard Cordray as CFPB Director

Rep. Carolyn Maloney
U.S. Representative for New York's 14th District

1/9/12

This week, President Obama used his executive authority to enable Richard Cordray, the former Attorney General of Ohio, to begin his work as Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB).

...The Dodd-Frank financial reform bill, which I worked to pass, created the CFPB to make financial transactions fairer, most honest, and more open for the American consumer. Its aim is to put an end to the kind of predatory practices that contributed so heavily to the near-collapse of our financial and banking systems.

Health care reform. It had to be done. It needs work, but it wasn't going to even start until we broke through that "absolutely not" barrier.

I don't have a horse in the race on your side of the pond, but Milliband (and his huge cartoon eyes) has been having a go at the coalition over their support for tax havens again, so that.

Lol, boy, I'm glad I'm not a democrat! Or a republican.
Kalik, do we really need a lawyer in that position? Seems someone with a background in accounting/book keeping would be more suited for that.
Would you want a lawyer doing your plumbing?

I posted my good news for the week when I posted about Obama wanting to merge departments. I think that is an excellent idea. A great start.

Tazzy, "merge?" Wouldn't it be better just to end unneccessary depts. in the first place?
If we don't need them why keep them going as something else? (lipstick on that pig)
How would you merge the EPA and the Education or Commerce depts? "OK, we're going to inspect your trucks and there better not be any gasoline or oil in them." (?????)
Over the decades *any* beaurocratic agency will grow exponentially! Look at the "U.N.", they started out as what, 5,000 people? Now I believe there's something like 60-90 thousand people working for that useless agency.
We don't need anymore paper shufflers, pencil sharpeners or memo senders in govt.
Hey! How's about we merge Education with the U.S. Marines?
"LISTEN UP YOU GRABASSTIC SUM BITCHES YOU'RE GOING TO *LEARN* THIS SHIT OR I'LL SHIT DOWN YOUR FUCKING NECK UNTIL YOU DROWN!!!"

Merging of like functions where they overlap, and streamlining the unique functions within, is a separate act from ending uneccessary departments. If there are any, that should be done as well, but it remains to be seen.

And what the fuck is the deal?  EPA and Education?

That is blatantly hijack, there is no plan or consideration to combine disparate functions.

States Attorneys General are involved in consumer protection - think MicroSoft Anti Trust case and in Codray's case BOA and AIG

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Cordray#Attorney_General_career

In April 2010, he reached a 1 billion dollar settlement with American International Group (AIG), one of four remaining named defendants (along with Marsh & McLennan, Hartford Financial Services and Chubb Corp.), in a 2007 antitrust case regarding business practices between 2001 and 2004.

I am an independent therefor I have no real party.

If I was Democrat.......it would be health care reform also.

If I was Republican....I think I would just be deeply ashamed and angry.

Oh yeah, you're right, this government can't do two things at once.
Merging and ending, walking and chewing bubble gum at the same time?

I'd have to say health care reform, though it is more like health insurance reform as it stands, it is a start and can, hopefully, lead to more comprehensive, true health reform in this country.

This, not nearly enough, but the first step in what I hope is a journey that will lead to universal coverage.

Nor can you seem to understand that the topic you are speaking about has its own thread.

You want to discuss this? Take it there.

I can't help but notice that no Republicans have offered anything their party has done that they support.
