In keeping with the travel log tradition, I am posting my recent musings on our trip to Vegas. I hope the comments, reviews or observation can be of some use to those planning future trips.
We staying at the Aria and cannot recommend the hotel more highly. Despite its great size, the level of service and attention was equal to many small luxury properties. Service was so anal that they organized loose coin on the desk into organized piles. The suite was magnificent and had views from the bedroom, bathroom and living room. There were three flat screens and a Jacuzzi tub (there was also a heated toilet seat with bidet functions – a touch weird, but I bet some on here would like it). The only negative was a matter of personal taste; the bed was a little soft. The poker room was excellent and the casino very good with high quality free drinks. Last time was stayed at the Encore, also an exclusive property, and can say we slightly preferred Aria.
As for dining, Vegas has become a premier American food city and may trail only New York. Best all around meal was Michael Mina (Bellagio) and the Lobster Pot Pie and Bluefin Tartar with quail egg were standouts. The Toro at BarMasa (Aria) was the best single bite of the trip, but at ten dollars a bite, it should have been. The Peking duck and foie gras in moosho pancakes was also spectacular. At $20.12 the lunch prix fixe at Estiatorio Milos (The Cosmopolitan) was perhaps the best value of any restaurant meal I have ever had. If you are in Vegas and like seafood make reservations for that lunch, period. For fun casual Tapas, the eponymously named Julian Serrano (Aria) is more than adequate and Mr. Serrano’s fine dining restaurant Picasso (Bellagio) is an excellent experience from the food to the spectacular setting and artwork. Sage (Aria) was excellent but not truly outstanding although the scallops with braised oxtail was a great dish.
For anyone spending more than a few days with an interest in geology, Red Rock canyon is well worth the half our drive and offers a spectacular scenic drive and interesting hikes.
I hope this can provide some good advice and always remember Vegas is a kink friendly city.

Lord, Someone sounds so snooty!

Now I'm hungry after reading that.

Although scallops with oxtail? Not a pairing I've ever considered.

Yes. It was not a pairing that would have sprung to my mind either. The richness of the oxtail serves as a good foil for the sweetness and texture of the scallops. Was served with a Pinot Noir (which seems like a compromise, but worked fairly well). Surprisingly good dish and I got hungry after writing the post.

Since you mentioned that it's a kink friendly city, maybe you'd be interested in sharing some info on that angle?  Did you attend any BDSM clubs or munch groups in particular that welcome those who are from out of town?

City Center, aside from its internal luxuries, is an eye sore to the Strip. Las Vegas was not meant to "grow up" and resemble the business district of some financial capital.

Thanks for the review.

Thanks for the review.

EDIT:

read the dates wrong.
that being said... just outta curiosity, cb, are you ever POSITIVE about ANYTHING?? I mean, seriously, given your posts on this site, I get the feeling that you would be a downer on the fact that the sun has risen.
