I would suggest reading The Loving Dominant, reading here in the forums and to get out and meet your local community.

SCchick89 -> RE: New to this... (1/19/2012 4:17:23 PM)

I think Fet life is probably the easiest way to find events. Most areas will have munches/socials, discussion groups etc. So, just do a search for your city (or nearest large city) and you should find a list of what's going on.

Munches/socials are events similar to happy hour held with vanilla attire at a vanilla venue. For instance. here in San Diego there's one at a Starbucks, one at an ice cream parlor and a bowling meet up every few months.

Let's see, your profile says you're from South Carolina. Here's a link with a few groups in SC: http://www.darkheart.com/usalist.html#South%20Carolina, though I don't know how accurate or comprehensive that is. I see that neither of the groups in my county are on that site's Maryland list.

Typically, kinky groups will get together every so often (say, once a week or month) at a restaurant, bar or similar and hang out and be social. This is called a "munch". This is a great way to meet people and get a better feel for what this stuff is really about without all the internet bullshit. [;)]

What else? Some groups have stuff like seminars or classes so people can learn different BDSM techniques, and some have "play parties", which are private parties (typically in somebody's house) where people engage in BDSM play. (BTW, you don't have to play at a play party. You can just hang out and be social and see what's going on.)

Also, if you haven't already, you should join Fetlife. It's basically like Facebook for kinky people, and you should be able to find more local people, groups and events on there.

Other side of the kneel here, but I thought I might be able to help.  I've been to a number of groups in SC, but I'm not sure of where you are in the state.  The groups that I've visited have some lovely people who would be glad to help.

You might find that an interesting read as well. Ofc we can't pidgeon hole everything, but it gives you a basic idea, that will be very helpful :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of D/s! I'm nowhere near SC, but I'm more than happy to talk with you if you'd like.

I'm slowly going through that book right now.

John Warren is on FL, and is actually a fairly prolific poster.

Welcome to the community! [sm=ubanana.gif]

Now then, my advice: Explore! Read, study, ask questions, and porn. Because who doesn't like porn? Feel free to be open, be curious, poke your nose in places that it probably doesn't belong, and explore. BDSM is such a vast world, with so much that every category could be a different country and there would be plenty of new islands popping up. I've not read The Loving Dominant, but I have read Woof! and The Master Manual (that was just curiosity because of a question my slave sister asked me once). There are also books on submission and the like. I suggest Stockroom.com's literature section.

I don't know about the community around you because I, for one, don't have one. But if you do, yes, get out there! EXPLORE!

BDSM is like a can of Pringles; once you pop, you just can't stop. Okay, I'll see myself to the door now.

I had a cat that got a pringles can stuck on it's head. It was epic good times.

He used to be on here too. I believe his posts are still searchable.

~FR~ Oside,

one of the things I've always liked about John is that he is so approachable.

Buzzzz -> RE: New to this... (1/27/2012 12:25:51 PM)

there is t3wd in columbia .. "that thing we do" or something like that.

LadyPact -> RE: New to this... (1/27/2012 12:49:26 PM)

It's actually "This Thing That We Do"  T3WD.  It is a group based in Columbia, SC.

SC_Lock is based in Greenville, SC.  Along with their own activities, they are also the hosts of the "Meet in the Middle" munch which gets attendees from various groups in the region.

There used to be another group in Greenville, SC called KEY.  I don't know if that group is still in existence.  (It had started up when T3 was still a 21+ group and may no longer be necessary that they have changed to 18+.)

Buzzzz -> RE: New to this... (1/28/2012 5:46:28 AM)

I was close enough ;)
