MasterG2kTR -> RE: wait.. WHAT?? (1/20/2012 5:41:02 AM)

Yeah I heard that a little earlier on HLN. So what's left for team names? The Marshmallows? Gimme a fucking break! No matter what name a team chooses these days someone will be offended. Too fucking bad!!!!

Fornica -> RE: wait.. WHAT?? (1/20/2012 6:23:24 AM)

Hillwilliam -> RE: wait.. WHAT?? (1/20/2012 6:31:57 AM)

You know you're getting older when women who are identified as 'cougars' look like hot younguns to you.[8D]

PeonForHer -> RE: wait.. WHAT?? (1/20/2012 6:44:25 AM)

In fairness, on porn sites these days any woman who looks older than twenty five gets labelled a 'cougar'.

Lucylastic -> RE: wait.. WHAT?? (1/20/2012 7:06:33 AM)

Sweet Gawd, no way
LMAO
pathetic
Its ONE thing to insult native americans
Cougar for women is a transitory stage in hype at least
between mother and hag
I think most women of "cougar" age are too busy having fun to be insulted by such a term[8|]

LaTigresse -> RE: wait.. WHAT?? (1/20/2012 7:08:18 AM)

I agree. That is ridiculous.

Another example of PC overload.

FR
I'd like to see the word reclaimed by the
animals and sports teams.
The current idiotic use of the word isn't
likely to be a part of the lexicon twenty
years from now. It's just a dumb media
buzzword that I find offensive.
It began as a word for women interested
in significantly younger partners, then
became any woman over thirty five or so.
I read an interview with a actor where the
word was used and he said in a few years
it would be like the word slut not a word
you throw around in polite conversation.
The word has negative connotations when
referring to women. The producers of the
Courtney Cox sitcom "Cougar Town" found
this out the hard way. When they researched
why their ratings were so low the overwhelming
response was they hated the title and
the word cougar used in that context.
They're now trying to retitle and
repackage the show.
So, please sports teams take back the
word.

FrostedFlake -> RE: wait.. WHAT?? (1/20/2012 8:27:13 PM)

Really... ...odd.

ScatteredRose -> RE: wait.. WHAT?? (1/20/2012 8:33:56 PM)

Okay. So, it's now offensive to use Cougar...

When will it be offensive to use "Indians" as a sports team...? -grumble-

I swear, people are trying so hard to be PC about everything they forget to just be. They don't realize that MOST kids don't make the generalization until adults say something about it. ._____.

AlwaysLisa -> RE: wait.. WHAT?? (1/20/2012 8:47:13 PM)

~FR~
There is a book, explaining an awful about older women who desire younger men called Red Hot Mamas, Coming Into our Own at Fifty.
Pretty racy stuff, there are more complimentary connections, then not.  Better to have the image of a hot woman, then a moose. (Say hello to the Mariners mascot).

Winterapple -> RE: wait.. WHAT?? (1/20/2012 9:44:04 PM)

The Cougar Town people in their research
didn't find that it was a hot woman that
was conjured with the people they questioned.
They said, based on the title, they didn't
want to watch a show about old women trying
to have sex with young guys.
If some women want to embrace it cool.
But a lot of people see it negatively and
others use it as a smarmy joke.
And the use of Indians, Redskins etc.
for sports teams has been offensive to
some people long before political correctness.
Like people who are American Indians.
Some of them aren't to wild about things
like the Atlanta Braves incorporating one
of their rituals as pep rally fare. And the
objections have come from Indians not
pious white people.
And Redskins is a nasty ass word.
Why not have the San Francisco Chinks
or the New York Dagos or the San Antonio
Spics?

heartcream -> RE: wait.. WHAT?? (1/20/2012 10:07:38 PM)

Personally I loathe name-caling. I am also not interested in dating men way younger than me. Ew.

Winterapple...

Apples and oranges.  Cougar, is not racist.  They used to be called Flapperdames, Cradle Robbers, and I'm sure, a few other names.  It took television to promote the word, Cougar, as a negative label.  The school in question, was thinking of the animal when they made the choice to elect their representative figure.

Because people draw a connection to Cougar Town, and find offense, now everyone must bow to their viewpoint.  THAT was my point.  If I find something offensive, I avoid it, very simple.  I have issues with people who try and censor my world because "they" feel something to be derogatory.

MissImmortalPain -> RE: wait.. WHAT?? (1/21/2012 7:29:17 AM)

I saw this the other day and honestly laughed for more than just a little while. Where I grew up the home town team was(as far as I know still are) cougars. Where my son now goes to school they have a team of indians. I have been called a cougar before for being involved with young men...it doesn't bother me. My mother is a native american and the whole bit about people deciding when others can and can not use the word indian does bother her. She thinks it is silly that people are overly touchy about it, and so do I. I don't think "pc" people are really being correct. I think they are just limiting the language for anyone that wants to use it.

Ninebelowzero -> RE: wait.. WHAT?? (1/21/2012 7:32:13 AM)

In England the powers that be decided that cub scouts wasn't gender inclusive enough as a title so now my son is into Beavers. he is 7 & doesn't realise why daddy sniggers lots & lots.
