We were. But my county has 14% unemployment, so that is where I look to see if things are lightening up

Most understandable. We are below the national average. But that may not be true for long with budget shortfalls for the public transit system here. up to 1000 layoffs are anticipated for march.

Lance, those are "govt" jobs.
I haven't noticed any jobs in the paper for "machinist", "carpenter", "builder", etc.
When the private sector starts adding jobs *that's* when the recession will break but it doesn't seem to be happening even in the long term.
Some economists are calling this "the new normal" and saying this could last for another six to eight years and even recommending that we start manufacturing in the U.S. again.
Ain't this "global economy" great?

Paper? Most places now use craigs list and monster.

Manufacturing...

Hospitality...

Its the off season there for construction and restaurants. There are limited manufacturing jobs there.

Very few use the paper to advertise anymore.

The State is planning massive layoffs, as they must. Also the county and municipalities. So I know employment is going to be high for a long time.

What do y'all make of that? Maybe the first is Obama using Gov't funds to make unemployment go down so that he can say, "See.... more jobs than ever." On the other hand, how can Obama influence, say ....... the Sheraton Hotel chain? [NO consipracy theories allowed, 'K?]

WELL IT ISN'T HIS ECONOMIC POLICIES BEING ENACTED OVER THE PAST TWO YEARS THAT GET THE CREDIT. WE ENTERED INTO ONE BIG FUCKING CONSPIRACY TO MAKE SURE NONE OF THAT HAPPENED. It's gotta be mere replacement of dead workers... There's alot of that at Bain... We call em "blow-outs"

The existing home inventory is finally going down, after years of absorbing tens of thousands of foreclosed homes which drove down home prices and killed the new home industry.

This is good news.

Yes and likely at least 2 million construction jobs have gone away. Construction in general and housing in particular are the drivers of jobs for skilled labor. (the trades)

I don't know about any conspiracy but less than 3 years is a very short time for govt. stimulus to work (and yet it is now) and especially given the resistance by opposing state govts. who only at the next election time hypocritically then takes the money or jobs and brags on it as if they did it.

Perry of Texas comes to mind. Fought the stimulus, then started to put it to work, still tripled Texas's debt, building infrastructure no less and at predominantly 4 military installations and then...brags about how it was his policies that worked. Gives new meaning to word chutzpah.

Tazzy, tell that to the 16-20% of unemployed in the western counties in this state.
Even around here it's about 11% right now I heard on the news, and we're the "lucky ones."
