GreedyTop -> I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 6:42:30 AM)

recently, my PC quit accessing the net. Comcast came out, and did their thing so I am able to get online with the lappy, but not the PC (the access on the lappy lasted about a half a day longer than the PC).

The comcast guy did the reset network/diagnostics/etc on the PC, but no joy.

I DLed Avast to the lappy, burned onto a stick, and loaded it onto the PC, then ran ALL the scans.

Still no joy.

Help?

I could say Linux, but you might prefer Windows.

GreedyTop -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 7:14:16 AM)

but my PC WILL NOT access the net AT ALL for me to DL anything..

(I tried linux on my admittedly hobbled netbook, and wasn't impressed... of course, I have no fucking idea where that netbook is now, it was so hobbled...)

k, how far can you get? You can boot up, and just not connect, or what?

GreedyTop -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 7:17:10 AM)

everything but my internet is working just fine.

Fornica -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 7:18:24 AM)

Is it wired, or are you (trying to) connect wirelessly?

GreedyTop -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 7:31:21 AM)

wired. the lappy is wireless, but the PC is a dinosaur.

Aylee -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 7:43:41 AM)

Is it your cable?

Is the interwebz speed too fast for your PC?

GreedyTop -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 7:51:27 AM)

nah it was working just fine until a few days ago. The comcast guy switched out the cable (which I had already done..).

GT,
What exactly happens when you try to connect, and what does your network connections say via the network connections menu?

If your laptop is connecting wireless-ly, have you tried seeing what happens when you try to connect it directly to the internet the way your pc is and run it directly off that connection?

mnottertail -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 7:56:51 AM)

look for a button with a radio tower on the side of the pc or a blue fn key with a radio tower on it, and put it the way it aint.

Fornica -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 7:59:11 AM)

What she said, can you see the connection appear in network connections? Can you screenshot?

GreedyTop -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 8:14:37 AM)

the PC gives me the unable to connect message.

ok, after testing it several times, if I run the CAT cable to the lappy, it's not working on the lappy. it seems that the modem works fine to the wireless router, but not wired.

angelikaJ -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 8:22:38 AM)

Your modem settings are probably askew; I would call the internet provider (cable) and have them trouble shoot it with you.

This. It's happened to us before and we had to do the above. Once it proved to be that the device just had to be replaced.

GreedyTop -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 8:28:13 AM)

done and done. still no joy. new cables, diagnostics run, new modem... *sigh*

Findinghappiness -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 8:29:20 AM)

go start > run > type cmd
then at the black window type ipconfig /all
hit enter
whats the response?  Lets make sure the network adapter is enabled, functioning,
then to try pinging the loopback.

GreedyTop -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 8:40:26 AM)

it says: C:\documents and settings\owner>

GreedyTop -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 9:06:45 AM)

DesFIP -> RE: I need PC tech help... (1/24/2012 2:18:43 PM)

Twice we've had to replace the router.
