Mistrix -> Used Equipment (6/1/2006 4:42:00 AM)

I find it pricey new equipment, floggers and whips, canes and the like.  Anyone got some used that they want to get rid of or sell?  I'm in Ontario Canada.  Just inquiring right now.  I want to build up my collection of "toys".

One problem that you may encounter is that overt BDSM equipment is considered contraban by the Canadian customs.  When I ran Diversified Services, we found we had to be very creative (butt plugs became latex flanges) when filling out customs declarations or the items were stopped at the border.

Also shipments in and out of Australia and New Zealand are "interdicted" if the customs officials find the items against the moral welfare of the nation.  What I've never understood is within Canada, there is a strong kink community so that which you can't ship in is readily available within the borders.  Of course, Mistrix, you are a quick step away from one of my favorite purveyors of gorgeous leather goods and playthings:  Northbound Leather.  They are a bit pricey, but the quality and style is unsurpassed.

I have heard that there might be a possibility of transmitting disease with used toys. I'm not sure exactly what that possibility is, but most of the info I read on toys does specify that you should use caution. I just tend to make my own. I see what I like and immediately think: how can I make that? There is also a sense of pride I get in the stuff I make.

Same here.  What I hate is when you are making gifts for someone and the relationship goes south and you are stuck with pretty, new things.  No sense in giving them to the other person.  Usually end up keeping a piece of the set and trashing the rest, or reworking it into something else.

Thanks everyone for your replies.  I'll be patient and keep working to make my own toys and buy them.  [8|]
