i really like the idea, but one day is not going to make or break a business. as much as i love local stores, their time is up. the big box places are here to stay, at least until some new model comes along that provides people with what they want for less. the only way to reverse the trend is if we all stopped shopping at the big box places, and if we did that we would be putting far more people out of work.

That is untrue. If we went back to the small retail model we would have to employ more people in those stores. Thats where most of the big box cost savings comes from.

BTW I try my best to never shop at any big box retailer and I get by just fine.

Are you kidding me? I make it a practice to shop local, and even buy local products, although sometimes that is not possible. Obviously, people were employed before Walmart came along, generally at small locally owned businesses. The consumer decides what is hear to stay, and I want my money going to my friends and neighbors.
