Well, I'm in New York and was a staunch Spitzer supporter...

..but no, he wasn't "hounded out of office."

He made a career as a hard-hitting AG, including hitting prostitution rings, brought his steam-roller attitude to the governor's mansion where it did NOT play well, and got caught with a high-price prostitute.

He then resigned, himself, early in the scandal. No hounding.

And a problem fully of his own making.

So does that mean he's only good enough to be Newt's running mate ?

The differences are obvious and it isn't just in their past. Would Spritzer ever...ever lead the dem poles as a candidate for the pres. nomination ? NO !!

Spitzer cheated on his wife, and it became public.  Gingrich cheated on two wives, and it became public.  Both men, from what I've herd, were pretty well disliked by everyone they worked with.

Spitzer chose to resign.  Newt resigned as well, but not due to disclosure of his affairs.  He resigned because his crappy leadership resulted in the GOP brand being damaged, and a loss in Congress.

Newt's disgrace happened a lot further back than Spitzer's.  Who knows - Spitzer may decide to return to politics someday like Newt.
