Welcome to the boards.  I'd love to do rescue work myself right now but can't due to special circumstances.  But good luck to you, may you find the sub of your dreams.

I am heartened and enjoy all the pics and touching stories!
As I am compelled to respond to a few I am soon, bummed to find that the Lady lives in another State!

Are there Are there not any dog/animal-lovers in L.A. or Orange County with whom I can have a relationship?

Joe

Good things come to those who wait.  It's not insta-fit, take it from someone who knows that all too well.

Folks who aren't animal-people

"Folks" ARE animals.

I just moved from Palm Springs. There seemed to be a lot of activity in Orange County. Maybe going to some events would be helpful.

I love all of God's little creatures (usually medium rare with some A-1 Steak sauce).

Seriously; while I don't have any creature companions at the moment, with the exception of a few of my herps, all of my pets have been rescues (Mostly cats, to be fair but some dogs).

Even the 8 herps that I purchased, I "chose" them by putting my arm into the enclosure and seeing which one would come to me.

The best story (if I may): I was just getting home from an awful, disgusting, horrible day (It had to do with 9/11 recovery) and there was a black cat, sitting on my front porch. I did the old "hissing-type thing" to get the cat to come to me but, she took off.

It was a nice evening weather-wise and that meant that I would be having my dinner out-doors so, I left the door open, knowing I'd be heading back out (with my hands full). I cracked open the can of tuna fish and that little black cat came running into the house and never left.

Peace and comfort,

Michael

I used to feed the neighborhood feral cats when I was growing up. My first job was at a boarding kennel, and I'd convinced my parents to let me bring home a little dog whose owner had died. After that I volunteered and a no-kill kitty shelter and was involved in a few rescues. The most memorable was when I had to crawl under a mobile home to get a mama kitty and her kittens. Still can't believe I did that. I'm claustrophobic and hate spiders lol.

Over the years I've rescued/adopted all sorts of critters. Fish, an aquatic turtle, a pair of ducks, a few snakes, even a mama rat and 4 babies. If a critter needs a home, I tend to provide them with one [:D]

My last rescue was about two years ago. A beautiful black kitty that had been abused and neglected by his owner (my neighbor at the time), then they abandoned him when they moved. He was extremely skittish at first, but turned into the sweetest cat I think I've ever had. When he wasn't feeling well he'd insist on being picked up, then he would nestle his head on my shoulder. He was also extremely sensitive to my moods and would do the same thing if he sensed I wasn't doing well. Sometimes he'd even wrap his paws around my neck in kitty hug.

I am DaddySatyr's girl, so I'm not looking for anyone, but I do hope you find what you're looking for. Good luck and happy rescuing!

There are a ton of events in LA and OC. I know lots of folk up there that are animal lovers as well. I would suggest getting out to some events.

Every pet in my home is a rescue (3 dogs, 3 cats, 3 small critters).

I always think that having a pet in one's profile pic makes you appear more approachable.

Best in what you seek here.
